Adamantylcalixarenes with CMPO groups at the wide rim: synthesis and extraction of lanthanides and actinides

2007

Abstract Starting from p -adamantylcalix[4]- and [6]arenes functionalized with carboxylic acid or ester groups at the adamantane nuclei, carbamoylmethylphosphine oxide (CMPO)-containing ligands of a novel type were synthesized. They were studied as extractants for a series of f-block elements including radioactive 152 Eu(III), 241 Am(III), 233 U(VI), and 239 Pu(IV). Tetrameric ligand 4b in which CMPO residues are connected to adamantane nuclei through methylene groups gave the best extraction results for lanthanides and actinides. For all the ligands the extraction efficiency does not decrease at higher nitric acid concentration. Although the discrimination between trivalent actinides and l…

Effects of Vildagliptin/Metformin Therapy on Patient-Reported Outcomes: Work Productivity, Patient Satisfaction, and Resource Utilization

2013

Introduction: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated not only with high direct healthcare costs, but also with indirect costs, as diabetic complications and the disease itself result in loss of productivity. Vildagliptin is a novel dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor that is given either alone or in combination with oral hypoglycemic drugs, including metformin. The study was designed to assess the hypothesis that fixed-combination vildagliptin/metformin improves work productivity measured as Work Productivity and Activity Impairment (WPAI) scores. Secondary objectives were the assessment of patient satisfaction by means of the Diabetes Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire (DTSQs), the c…

Sequential Treatment Escalation with Dapagliflozin and Saxagliptin Improves Beta Cell Function in Type 2 Diabetic Patients on Previous Metformin Trea…

2018

AbstractWe investigated the effect of sequential treatment escalation with dapagliflozin and saxagliptin on beta cell function in patients with T2DM insufficiently controlled on metformin monotherapy during a hyperglycaemic clamp investigation. Twenty-six patients (19 males, age 63.5±7.0 years; duration of diabetes 8.8±4.7 years; HbA1c 63.9±15.8 mmol/mol; mean±SD) were enrolled in the study. During a first treatment period (TP1) all patients received 10 mg dapagliflozin for one month, followed by the addition of 5 mg saxagliptin or placebo for another month (TP2). At baseline and at the end of each treatment period, fasting glucose and insulin levels were analysed, and a hyperglycaemic clam…

Single-electron self-exchange between cage hydrocarbons and their radical cations in the gas phase.

2010

We show that the radical cations of adamantane (C(10)H(16)(*+), 1H(*+)) and perdeuteroadamantane (C(10)D(16)(*+), 1D(*+)) are stable species in the gas phase. The radical cation of adamantylideneadamantane (C(20)H(28)(*+), 2H(*+)) is also stable (as in solution). By using the natural (13)C abundances of the ions, we determine the rate constants for the reversible isergonic single-electron transfer (SET) processes involving the dyads 1H(*+)/1H, 1D(*+)/1D and 2H(*+)/2H. Rate constants for the reaction 1H(*+)+1D 1H+1D(*+) are also determined and Marcus' cross-term equation is shown to hold in this case. The rate constants for the isergonic processes are extremely high, practically collision-co…

Sortase A Inhibitors: Recent Advances and Future Perspectives

2015

Here, we describe the most promising small synthetic organic compounds that act as potent Sortase A inhibitors and cater the potential to be developed as antivirulence drugs. Sortase A is a polypeptide of 206 amino acids, which catalyzes two sequential reactions: (i) thioesterification and (ii) transpeptidation. Sortase A is involved in the process of bacterial adhesion by anchoring LPXTG-containing proteins to lipid II. Sortase A inhibitors do not affect bacterial growth, but they restrain the virulence of pathogenic bacterial strains, thereby preventing infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus or other Gram-positive bacteria. The efficacy of the most promising inhibitors needs to be com…

Essential Oil of Leaves and Fruits ofAthamanta siculaL. (Apiaceae)

2003

Abstract The essential oils obtained separately from the leaves and the fruits of Athamanta sicula L. collected in Sicily were studied by capillary GC/MS. The main component in the leaf oil was myristicin (97.6%), while β-pinene (2.8%), β-phellandrene (5.8%), δ-3-carene (22.6%), terpinolene (20.5%) and myristicin (41.3%) were the main components of the fruit oil.
