Fractionation of mercury in sediments during draining of Augusta (Italy) coastal area by modified Tessier method

Abstract A modified Tessier method was applied to sediments dredged from Augusta (Italy) coastal area with the purpose of establishing the amount and the forms in which mercury is present in the different sediment fractions. The mercury fractionation was made by measuring the concentration of the metal ion on the solutions and directly on the sediment fractions obtained by sequential extraction. The measurements on the solutions as well as that on the solid fractions were carried out by using a Direct Mercury Analyser, DMA 80. Cada vez es mayor el grado de concienciacion social y politico sobre la problematica de las zonas desfavorecidas en españa. En la comunidad valenciana, el programa de ordenacion y promocion del alto mijares y alto palancia es el primer documento aprobado oficialmente por el gobierno regional que, en el marco de la ley de agricultura de montaña, pretende constituirse en la base de las actuaciones tendentes a hacer frente a la dinamica reciente de estas zonas desfavorecidas. En este articulo se hace un analisis critico de algunas de las aportaciones mas destacables desde la optica de la geografia. (a)

Coping between crises: Early Triassic–early Jurassic bivalve diversity dynamics

The Triassic is bounded by two of the most severe biotic crises, but nevertheless this time was, for bivalves, both a recovery and a diversification period, and a moment to fully exploit some of their evolutionary novelties. Just how and when this was achieved is analyzed in this paper, which covers Induan to Sinemurian bivalve diversity, based on a newly compiled database. Taxonomic diversity and ecospace dynamics are examined separately. Diversity and evolutionary rates were assessed, extinction selectivity was tested using a resampling algorithm, and cohort analysis was used to study extinction patterns.
