Living means transfiguring the place and loading it with meanings that transcend its pure objectivity, allowing our body to feel itself among "its things", close to itself. The path of "transfiguration" inherent in living interprets the complementarity between man and his environment and reveals the poetic capacity of architecture. Thus, it may be interesting to understand how the interaction between body and space can make us regain possession of the most problematic places, within a mental and transcendent dimension.

Abitare significa trasfigurare il luogo e caricarlo di significati che trascendono la sua pura oggettività consentire al nostro corpo di sentirsi tra le "sue cose" presso di sé. Il percorso di "trasfigurazione" insito nell’abitare interpreta la complementarità tra l’uomo e il suo ambiente e svela la capacità poetica dell’architettura. Metabolic shift of polyphosphate-accumulating organisms with different levels of polyphosphate storage

Previous studies have shown that polyphosphate-accumulating organisms (PAOs) are able to behave as glycogen-accumulating organisms (GAOs) under different conditions. In this study we investigated the behavior of a culture enriched with Accumulibacter at different levels of polyphosphate (poly-P) storage. The results of stoichiometric ratios Gly degraded/HAc uptake, PHB synthesized/HAc uptake, PHV synthesized/HAc uptake and P release/HAc uptake confirmed a metabolic shift from PAO metabolism to GAO metabolism: PAOs with high poly-P content used the poly-P to obtain adenosine tri-phosphate (ATP), and glycogen (Gly) to obtain nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) and some ATP. [EN] Although anaerobic membrane bioreactors (AnMBR) are a core technology in the transition of urban wastewater (UWW) treatment towards a circular economy, the transition is being held back by a number of bottlenecks. The dissolved methane released from the effluent, the need to remove nutrients (ideally by recovery), or the energy lost by the competition between methanogenic and sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) for the biodegradable COD have been identified as the main issues to be addressed before AnMBR becomes widespread. Application of the General Model "Biological Nutrient Removal Model No.1" to upgrade two full-scale WWTPs

In this paper, two practical case studies for upgrading two wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) using the general model BNRM1 (Biological Nutrient Removal Model No. 1) are presented. In the first case study, the Tarragona WWTP was upgraded by reducing the phosphorus load to the anaerobic digester in order to minimize the precipitation problems. Phosphorus load reduction was accomplished by mixing the primary sludge and the secondary sludge and by elutriating the mixed sludge. Solubility and acid-base properties and activity coefficients of chitosan in different ionic media and at different ionic strengths, at T=25°C

Studies on the acid-base properties and solubility of a polyammonium polyelectrolyte (chitosan) with different molecular weights (MW 310 and 50 kDa), were performed at T=25 °C, in the pH range 2.5–7. The protonation of chitosan was investigated by potentiometry ([H+]-glass electrode) in NaCl, NaNO3 and mixed NaNO3+Na2SO4 ionic media, at different ionic strengths. Protonation constants were calculated as a function of dissociation degree α by means of two different models, namely, a simple linear model and the modified Henderson–Hasselbalch equation. Contribution to the knowledge of the mosquitoes in the Devesa of Racó de l Olla, Albufera Natural Park of Valencia (Spain)

[ES] Se presenta una recopilación de los resultados de varios proyectos, desarrollados entre los años 2004 y 2015, sobre la presencia de los mosquitos de la familia Culicidae en el entorno de la Devesa y el Racó de l¿Olla del Parque Natural de l¿Albufera de Valencia (España). Se registró un total de 10 especies pertenecientes a cinco géneros (Aedes, Coquillettidia, Culex, Culiseta y Ochlerotatus), alguno de estos muy característicos de los ambientes donde fueron recolectados. In the first season of the television Eco Noir crime series “Fortitude” (2015) the polar bear appears as a sticky object that embodies an ambiguous affective charge as an icon of global warming. This article discusses the ways in which the polar bear evokes viewer affect in the series through two discourses. The first one relates to violence, essentially present in crime narratives, and how the human and nonhuman animal are positioned in relation to global warming, violence and each other.
