Methods The study used a qualitative, descriptive research design for an in-depth understanding of peer support provided to PLHIV in the context of outpatient clinics. Healthcare professionals contribu…

Delayed, diffuse acute peritonitis secondary to misplacement of a cystogastrostomic "pigtail" drain in an outpatient after discharge.

2017

Background and aim of the work: Pancreatic pseudocyst endoscopic drainage by pancreatogastrostomy “pigtail” drain placement is spreading worldwide, with high success-rate and low morbidity, and is increasingly performed as outpatient procedure. The paper reports an unusual very early complication of this procedure and discusses the peculiar aspects of this event in an outpatient setting. Contribution of benzodiazepines in dental care of patients with special needs.

2019

Background Conscious sedation in dental treatment of patients with special needs (PNEs) has the purpose of controlling events such as anxiety and fear, as well as promoting muscle relaxation and mastery of uncoordinated movements. Benzodiazepines (BZDs) are among the most used drugs due to their anxiolytic, hypnotic and sedative properties. The objective of this investigation is to demonstrate a study on the contribution of conscious sedation with BZD in PNEs. Material and Methods The study included 40 PNEs, non-collaborators, submitted to conscious oral sedation with Midazolam (0.5 mg/kg) for dental treatment, receiving vital signs monitoring in the pre, trans and postoperative periods. Re…

Morning and smooth 24-h ambulatory blood pressure control is not achieved in general practice: results from the SURGE observational study.

2013

BACKGROUND The aim of this large-scale, practice-based observational study [Survey with HBPM and ABPM Under Real clinical conditions in General practice to Evaluate BP control in the early morning (SURGE)] was to ascertain the degree of morning and 24-h ambulatory blood pressure (ABP) control in hypertensive patients. METHODS Hypertensive patients [with uncontrolled clinic blood pressure (BP) >140/90 mmHg at screening] from nine different countries were included. Ambulatory BP monitoring was performed over 24 h at 15-min intervals during the day and at 20-min intervals during the night. Assessments included morning (0600-1159 h) and daytime ABP control (BP < 135/85 mmHg), and 24-h ABP contr…
