Coordinative halogen bonds have recently gained interest for the assembly of supramolecular capsules. Ion mobility-mass spectrometry and theoretical calculations now reveal the well-defined gas-phase structures of dimeric and hexameric [N...I+...N] halogen-bonded capsules with counterions located inside their cavities as guests. Organocatalysts Fold to Generate an Active Site Pocket for the Mannich Reaction

Catalysts containing urea, thiourea and tertiary amine groups fold into a three-dimensional organized structure in solution both in the absence as well as in the presence of substrates or substrate analogues, as indicated by solution NMR and computational studies. These foldamer catalysts promote Mannich reactions with both aliphatic and aromatic imines and malonate esters. Hammett plot and secondary kinetic isotope effects provide evidence for the C-C bond forming event as the turnoverlimiting step of the Mannich reaction. One of the most destructive diseases affecting grapevine in Europe is caused by Flavescence Dorée phytoplasma (FDp), which belongs to the 16Sr-V group and is a European Union quarantine pathogen. Although many molecular techniques such as loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) are widely used for the rapid detection of FDp in infected grapevine plants, there is no developed isothermal amplification assay for FDp detection in the insect vectors that are fundamental for the spread of the disease. Tässä työssä tutkitaan Britannian Palestiinan mandaatin viimeisiä vuosia 1945–1948 Britannian parlamentin näkökulmasta. Työn ensimmäinen tavoite on havainnoida Britannian julkisen keskustelun näkemyksiä Palestiinan kysymyksestä. Parlamentissa esitettiin sekä juutalaisia, että arabeja puoltavia mielipiteitä, mutta Palestiinan tilanteen yhä kärjistyessä keskiöön nousivat alueen brittijoukkojen turvallisuus. Kritiikkiä hallituksen lisäksi sai myöhemmin myös YK sen jälkeen, kun Britannian hallitus siirsi sille Palestiinan tulevaisuuden ratkaisuvastuun ja YK päätti jakaa Palestiinan Arabi- ja Juutalaisvaltioksi.
