In vitro and in vivo antileishmanial and trypanocidal studies of new N-benzene- and N-naphthalenesulfonamide derivatives.

We report in vivo and in vitro antileishmanial and trypanocidal activities of a new series of N-substituted benzene and naphthalenesulfonamides 1-15. Compounds 1-15 were screened in vitro against Leishmania infantum , Leishmania braziliensis , Leishmania guyanensis , Leishmania amazonensis , and Trypanosoma cruzi . Sulfonamides 6e, 10b, and 10d displayed remarkable activity and selectivity toward T. cruzi epimastigotes and amastigotes. 6e showed significant trypanocidal activity on parasitemia in a murine model of acute Chagas disease. Study of the column efficiency using gradient elution based on Van Deemter plots.

Performance of chromatographic columns is of major importance in the development of more efficient separation methods. So far, a common practice is to study the column behavior in isocratic elution by modifying the flow rate and fitting the theoretical plate height values versus the mobile phase linear velocity, according to the Van Deemter equation. In this work, an approach is presented to extend the measurement of efficiency to linear gradient elution, where the mean retention factor is kept constant at each assayed flow. Simultaneous optimization of mobile phase composition, column nature and length to analyse complex samples using serially coupled columns

Abstract The combination of the selectivity of different columns serially coupled improves the separation expectancies with regard to the separation offered by each single column. In the reported approaches, either a pre-selected isocratic mobile phase composition or gradient program, giving rise to acceptable retention, is used. Although there is a great deal of stationary phases having different selectivities (even practically orthogonal selectivities), these very rarely are taken as a factor to be optimized during method development. The chromatographer selects the stationary phase usually in a trial-and-error fashion (or based on the solute nature and expected interactions), and then optimizes continuous factors as the mobile phase composition, pH, temperature and flow-rate. Laboratory leaching studies of oryzalin and diuron through three undisturbed vineyard soil columns

After 845 mm of simulated rainfall in 15 days, soil leachates contained higher amounts of diuron (3.2%, 11.8% and 18.8% of applied diuron, respectively) than oryzalin (0.2%, 4.9%, 3.7%, respectively). Leaching of oryzalin and diuron through undisturbed vineyard soil columns under outdoor conditions

12 pages; International audience; Field studies monitoring herbicide pollution in the vineyards of Burgundy (France) have revealed that drinking water reservoirs are contaminated with several pre-emergence herbicides. An assessment of the leaching of two such herbicides, diuron and oryzalin, was therefore performed using lysimeters, under outdoor conditions, from May 2001 to May 2002. Dispersal potential of antibiotrophy along the manure-soil-sediment continuum of sulfamethazine-contaminated agrosystems

An emerging function in the scientific literature, antibiotrophy is the bacterial capacity to metabolize antibiotics. Considered a bioremediation tool, it remains a health risk due to its association with antibiotic resistance. The first goal of this thesis was to study its dispersion within agrosystems contaminated with antibiotics during two coalescence events, i.e. manure spreading on the soil and its erosion towards the aquatic compartment.
