Vortex dynamics in rotating counterflow and plane Couette and Poiseuille turbulence in superfluid Helium

An equation previously proposed to describe the evolution of vortex line density in rotating counterflow turbulent tangles in superfluid helium is generalized to incorporate nonvanishing barycentric velocity and velocity gradients. Our generalization is compared with an analogous approach proposed by Lipniacki, and with experimental results by Swanson et al. in rotating counterflow, and it is used to evaluate the vortex density in plane Couette and Poiseuille flows of superfluid helium.
Practical Strategies for Stable Operation of HFF-QCM in Continuous Air Flow

Currently there are a few fields of application using quartz crystal microbalances (QCM). Because of environmental conditions and insufficient resolution of the microbalance, chemical sensing of volatile organic compounds in an open system was as yet not possible. In this study we present strategies on how to use 195 MHz fundamental quartz resonators for a mobile sensor platform to detect airborne analytes. Commonly the use of devices with a resonant frequency of about 10 MHz is standard. By increasing the frequency to 195 MHz the frequency shift increases by a factor of almost 400. W wielu miejscowościach znajdują się pozostałości po zakładach przemysłowych. Nawet jeśli taki teren został zrekultywowany, często obszary położone nieco dalej nie zostały przywrócone do pierwotnego stanu. Na takich terenach można spodziewać się istnienia podwyższonych stężeń różnych pierwiastków, w tym izotopów promieniotwórczych. Do badań pobrano próbki gleby na obszarze byłej cementowni „Piast”, znajdującej się w granicach miasta Opola oraz na obszarze pobliskich ogródków działkowych. Niniejszy artykuł prezentuje wybrane strategie nazewnicze, które wpływają na powstawanie terminów fachowych w branży kolejnictwa. Jednym z jego celów jest ukazanie, że forma tych pojęć jest w głównej mierze uzależniona od takich aspektów jak ekonomia językowa i ‘tendencja do uwidaczniania’. Krótki rys historyczny i szczególne podkreślenie znaczenia kognitywnej funkcji języków fachowych tworzą ramy niniejszej analizy, z jednej strony podkreślając wagę omawianego zagadnienia, z drugiej zaś wskazując na wielowymiarowy charakter uzyskanych wyników.

Abstract This article is dedicated to present the most common word-formation strategies in German railway specialist terminology. The presentation of the most productive morphological nomination strategies in the analysed area is preceded by a short historical outline of the railway industry in Germany. The effect of writing modality on recollection in children and adolescents

We set out to assess the extent to which writing modality affects recollection in children and adolescents. We examined 10- to 11-year-old children’s (N = 63) and 16-year-old adolescents’ (N = 43) handwriting, keyboarding with a laptop computer and keyboarding with a touchscreen tablet computer or mobile phone in a within-subjects experimental design. Participants were instructed to write down stories dictated to them in the three writing modalities. Recollection of the stories was assessed using free recall of details in the stories. Skala Niesprawności Neurologicznej Szpitala Guy (GNDS, The Guy’s Neurological Disability Scale) jest istotnym narzędziem służącym do pomiaru niepełnosprawności u osób ze stwardnieniem rozsianym. Służy ona do określenia poziomu funkcjonowania w dwunastu ważnych obszarach. Celem obecnych badań było opracowanie polskiej wersji językowej skali GNDS i sprawdzenie jej trafności, rzetelności oraz przydatności do oceny niepełnosprawności występującej u osób ze stwardnieniem rozsianym. Grupę badaną stanowiło 175. pacjentów z rozpoznaniem stwardnienia rozsianego. Attēla kvalitātes ietekme uz acs struktūru izvērtēšanu foto-diagnostikā

Darba mērķis bija izpētīt 18 samazinātas kvalitātes spraugas lampas attēlu, kuros attēloti acu priekšējo daļu struktūras, ietekmi uz 5 profesionāļu atzinumiem. Attēli, kas sadalīti 3 6 attēlu komplektos trim samazināšanas filtriem, izplūdums (1-6), troksnis (7-12) un kontrasts (13-18), tika parādīti datora ekrānā un salīdzināti ar oriģinālajiem attēliem. Rezultāti tika saskaņoti ar īsto attēla diagnozi un novērtēti 3 punktu sistēmā, pareizs atradums: 1 un 0,5 (daļēji) punkti, nepareizs vai nav atrasts: 0 punkti. Tika reģistrēti 53 punkti no 90 (58% pareizi un 41% nepareizi). Rezultāti liecina, ka attēla kvalitātes samazināšana būtiski neietekme…
