In this paper, esports market development is exhibited and analyzed through various data sources and literature review. Additionally, economic concepts are applied to the esports environment. Demand characteristics of this emerging market are analyzed by applying the concept of competitive balance as commonly used in economics of sport scrutiny. The subject is relevant to investigate since there have not been many scientific researches of motorcycle sport and the factors behind the success. This chapter presents an end of athletic career case of a professional ice hockey player, Pekka Hirvonen. The chapter presents his case, details of the multi-ligament knee injury he suffered, the role of athletic identity, pre-retirement planning, and coping skills in the process of transitioning out of sport. These factors are then further explained through Taylor and Ogilvie’s (1994) conceptual model of adaptation to career transition. Based on the above, an interprofessonal plan of care was developed, and the case was evaluated from the perspective of those involved: a licenced psychologist, his wife, and coach. Urheilun ammattimaistuminen on jatkunut Suomessakin jo vuosikymmeniä. Tutkittua tietoa on ollut saatavilla niukanlaisesti. Tätä tutkimusaukkoa paikkaa raportti, jonka aineisto koottiin vuodenvaihteessa 2020–2021 toteutetulla seurakyselyllä. Ammattimaistumista osoitti jo sekin, että kyselyyn vastanneissa 91 seurassa oli keskimäärin seitsemän päätoimista työntekijää. Enimmillään seurassa toimi 200 osa-aikaista työntekijää. Yli puolet seuroista oli saanut palkkaukseen ulkopuolista tukea, ja yleisin rahoituslähde oli oppisopimus- ja työllistämistuki. Osaavan työvoiman löytäminen osoittautui haastavaksi. Seuratyöntekijöiden lisäksi 60 prosenttia vastanneista seuroista maksoi palkkaa urheilijoill…
