The Stevens rearrangement of nitrile-stabilized ammonium ylides in conjunction with the reductive removal of the nitrile function permits the facile construction of α-branched amines from α-aminonitriles. We employed this reaction sequence for the preparation of (±)-laudanosine, (±)-laudanidine and (±)-armepavine, (±)-7-methoxycryptopleurine, and (±)-xylopinine from two closely related and readily accessible bicyclic α-aminonitriles. The final products were obtained in high to almost quantitative yields (71–98%) from the quaternary ammonium salts obtained by N-alkylation of these starting materials.

This report describes a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)-thymol/nitroprusside delivery composite sensor for direct monitoring of ammonium in environmental water samples. The sensor is based on a PDMS support that contains the Berthelot's reaction reagents. To prepare the PDMS-thymol/nitroprusside composite discs, thymol and nitroprusside have been encapsulated in the PDMS matrix, forming a reagent release support which significantly simplifies the analytical measurements, since it avoids the need to prepare derivatizing reagents and sample handling is reduced to the sampling step. From ‘green’ technologies to ‘red’ antioxidant compounds extraction of purple corn: a combined ultrasound-ultrafiltration-purification approach

A pilot scale process consisting of ultrasound-assisted extraction, ammonium sulfate precipitation, cross-flow ultrafiltration and AB-8 macroporous resins purification aiming to recover anthocyanins and zein from purple corn (PC) was optimized and scaled-up. Real-time control strategy for nitrogen removal via nitrite in a SHARON reactor using pH and ORP sensors

This paper presents a real-time control strategy for nitrogen removal via nitrite in a continuous flow SHARON reactor using on-line available and industrially feasible sensors (pH and ORP). The developed control strategy optimizes the length of aerobic and anoxic phases as well as the external carbon source addition. Modeling the decay of nitrite oxidizing bacteria under different reduction potential conditions

Binding of fluoride and carbonate by open chain polyammonium cations

The formation of open chain polyammonium cation-fluoride and -carbonate complexes was studied by potentiometric and calorimetric techniques at t=25 degrees C. Several species of H(i)AL (A=amine; L=F(-), CO(3)(2-)) are formed in both systems with a mean stability log K=1.0zeta (zeta=|z(anion)xz(cation)|) and log K=2.0zeta for fluoride and carbonate, respectively. Abstract N,N-Di-n-octyl-N,N-dimethyl cholate (1) and N,N-di-n-nonyl-N,N-dimethyl ammonium cholate (2) have been prepared by crystallization from equimolar mixtures of sodium cholate and quaternary N,N-di-n-alkyl-N,N-dimethyl (n-octyl or n-nonyl) ammonium bromides. The formed crystalline materials have been structurally characterized by 13C and 15N cross polarization magic angle spinning (CPMAS) NMR, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and thermoanalytical (TGA/DTA and DSC) methods and compared with each other.
