Abstract A procedure based on the technique of the pyrolysis–gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (Py–GC–MS) has been applied, in this work, in order to determine the composition of diterpenoid resin employed in art works. The method is based on the on line derivatization of these resins using hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS). Results obtained were compared with those previously reported in literature from Venice turpentine, Strasbourg turpentine, colophony, sandarac and Manila copal using this same method and with those others from in situ thermally assisted hydrolysis and methylation with tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH). Non-Centrosymmetric Tetrameric Assemblies of Tetramethylammonium Halides with Uranyl Salophen Complexes in the Solid State

Ditopic salophen-UO(2) receptors 1-4 and 7 co-crystallize with tetramethylammonium (TMA) chloride and fluoride salts producing good quality crystals amenable for X-ray diffraction characterization. The arrangement of the receptor and salt units in the crystal lattice is such that tetrameric ball-shaped assemblies are formed, where an inner cluster of four TMA cations are surrounded by an outer shell of four UO(2)-bound anions. These elaborate architectures, which occur in all cases, regardless of a certain degree of structural modification on the receptors, lead to lattices that belong to non-centrosymmetric (NCS) space groups. Dicopper(II) Metallacyclophanes with N,N'-2,6-Pyridinebis(oxamate): Solution Study, Synthesis, Crystal Structures, and Magnetic Properties.

The complexing ability of copper(II) in solution by the ligand N,N'-2,6-pyridinebis(oxamic acid) (H4mpyba, H4L) was determined through potentiometric and UV-vis spectroscopy at 25 °C and 0.15 M NaCl. The logarithms of the equilibrium constants for its copper(II) complexes according to the eqs 2H2L + 2Cu ⇆ [Cu2(H2L)2], 2H2L + 2Cu ⇆ [Cu2(H2L) (HL)] + H, 2H2L + 2Cu ⇆ [Cu2(HL)2] + 2H, 2H2L + 2Cu ⇆ [Cu2(HL)(L)] + 3H, and 2H2L + 2Cu ⇆ [Cu2L2] + 4H were 12.02(7), 8.04(5), 1.26(6), -7.51(6), and -16.36(6), respectively. Aromatic Bridged Bis-phenol A Derived Cyclophanes. Synthesis, Molecular Structure and Binding Properties Toward Quats

Three novel polyoxyethylene bridged bis phenol A derived cyclophanes, {\rm 2 -- 4,} with additional aromatic units in the bridge to increase the number of cation–π interactions with guest cations, were synthesized and characterized by means of X-ray crystal structure determinations. The binding properties of these receptors toward tetramethylammonium (TMA), N-methylpyridinium (NMP), acetylcholine (ACh) and N-methylquinolinium (NMQ) salts were evaluated by means of 1H NMR spectroscopy and compared with those of the previously reported receptor 1.

Polyether-bridged cyclophanes incorporating bisphenol A units as neutral receptors for quats: synthesis, molecular structure and binding properties

Two novel neutral polyoxyethylene bridged cyclophanes (2a and 2b) incorporating bisphenol A units were synthesized and characterized by means of x-ray crystal structure determination. The binding properties of 2a and 2b toward tetramethylammonium, N-methylpyridinium, and acetylcholine cations were evaluated by means of 1H NMR spectroscopy. Consistent with indications provided by the molecular structure, the cavity in the basket-like cyclophanes is large enough to accommodate the given guest cations conveniently. Abstract Homogeneous single crystals of tetramethylammonium tetrahalogenometallate solid solutions have been grown: a temperature difference growth method with thermally enforced convection was used during the material transport from an equilibrated feed material to the growing crystals. The smallest crystals were mostly studied by differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray crystallography. Some bigger crystals were available for dielectric measurements and Raman scattering. Conformation of a chain polyelectrolyte in solution with low molecular weight salt: small angle neutron scattering measurements

Small angle neutron scattering measurements have been carried out on the tetramethylammonium salt of the polystyrenesulfonic acid withDP w =310 and 1060 in water solution with tetramethylammonium chloride with ionic strength between 0.02 M and 1.0 M. The scattering curves in the scattering vector range 0.05 nm−1≤Q≤1.8nm−1 have been fitted using the form factor of a worm-like chain of finite thickness. Synthesis and Characterization of New Fluorescent Styrene-Containing Carborane Derivatives: The Singular Quenching Role of a Phenyl Substituent

A set of neutral and anionic carborane derivatives in which the styrenyl fragment is introduced as a fluorophore group has been successfully synthesized and characterized. The reaction of the monolithium salts of 1-Ph-1,2-C(2)B(10)H(11), 1-Me-1,2-C(2)B(10)H(11) and 1,2-C(2)B(10)H(12) with one equivalent of 4-vinylbenzyl chloride leads to the formation of compounds 1-3, whereas the reaction of the dilithium salt of 1,2-C(2)B(10)H(12) with two equivalents of 4-vinylbenzyl chloride gives disubstituted compound 4. A one-pot strategy for the direct growth of continuous and regular thin films of a neutral oxamato-bridged heterobimetallic chain, synthesized from Co2+ nitrate and the tetramethylammonium salt of the anionic copper(II) complex (Me4N)2[Cu(2,6-Et2pa)2]·6H2O (1) (2,6-Etpa = N-2,6-diethylphenyloxamate) over Si(111) surfaces functionalized with carboxylic acid terminating groups has been developed.
