Influence of Peripheral Substitution on the Magnetic Behavior of Single-Ion Magnets Based on Homo- and Heteroleptic TbIIIBis(phthalocyaninate)
2013
A series of homoleptic ([Tb(III)(Pc)(2) ]) and heteroleptic ([Tb(III)(Pc)(Pc')]) Tb(III) bis(phthalocyaninate) complexes that contain different peripheral substitution patterns (i.e., tert-butyl or tert-butylphenoxy groups) have been synthesized in their neutral radical forms and then reduced into their corresponding anionic forms as stable tetramethylammonium/tetrabutylammonium salts. All of these compounds were spectroscopically characterized and their magnetic susceptibility properties were investigated. As a general trend, the radical forms exhibited larger energy barriers for spin reversal than their corresponding reduced compounds. Remarkably, heteroleptic complexes that contain elect…
Organotin(IV) azido and mixed azidothiocyanato complex anions; A Mössbauer and vibrational spectroscopic study
1975
Abstract Tetraphenylarsonium and tetramethylammonium salts of the complex anions Ph 3 Sn(N 3 ) − 2 , Ph 3 Sn(N 3 )(NCS) − , Me 2 Sn(N 3 ) 2− 4 and Ph 2 Sn(N 3 ) 2 (NCS) 2− 2 have been synthesized, and the solid state configuration of the complex anions has been studied by Mossbauer and vibrational spectroscopies. Trigonal bipyramidal structures are advanced for the Ph 3 Sn IV derivatives, with equatorial SnC 3 and apical pseudohalide ligands, while the R 2 Sn IV compounds are assumed to be trans -octahedral species. The NCS − ligands are observed to be N-bonded to Sn IV . Conductance and PMR (for the Me 2 Sn IV compound) data suggest the presence of the complex anions also in solution phase…
A 2,3-dialkoxynaphthalene-based naphthocage
2019
A 2,3-dialkoxynaphthalene-based naphthocage has been synthesized. This naphthocage prefers to bind small organic cations with its low-symmetry conformation, which is in contrast to 2,6-dialkoxynaphthalene-based naphthocages. Self-sorting of these two naphthocages with two structurally similar guests tetramethylammonium and tetraethylammonium was achieved as well. peerReviewed
Ion Pair Recognition of Quaternary Ammonium and Iminium Salts by Uranyl-Salophen Compounds in Solution and in the Solid State
2007
Efficient ditopic receptors for quaternary ammonium and iminium salts have been obtained upon functionalization of the uranyl-salophen unit with conformationally flexible side arms bearing phenyl or beta-naphthyl substituents. Binding affinities in chloroform solution have been measured for a large number of quaternary salts comprising tetramethylammonium (TMA), tetrabutylammonium (TBA), acetylcholine (ACh), N-methylpyridinium (NMP), and N-methylisoquinolinium (NmiQ) cations. Recognition of the anion partner is ensured by coordination to the hard Lewis acidic uranyl center, whereas cation-pi/CH-pi interactions of the quaternary ions are established with the aromatic pendants. The role of th…
The role of cation⋯π interactions in capsule formation: co-crystals of resorcinarenes and alkyl ammonium salts
2008
An unprecented dimeric capsular assembly of a tetramethylated C-hexyl resorcinarene and an expected one from unsubstituted C-butyl resorcinarene with tetramethylammonium cation are described. Surprisingly tetramethylated C-hexyl resorcinarene, with no apparent possibility for intra-capsular hydrogen bonds, forms a capsule which is held together solely by the cation⋯π interactions and the complementary geometry of the spherical guest cation and the concave resorcinarene host. The C-butyl resorcinarene capsule, as in the case of dimeric resorcinarene capsules reported earlier, is mediated viasolvent molecules and intra-capsular hydrogen bonds. We also report here two co-crystals of C-methyl r…
Tetramethylammonium chlorodiphenylthiocyanatoantimonate(III)
2005
The crystal structure of the title compound, (C4H12N)[Sb(C6H5)2Cl(NCS)], contains two cations and two anions in the asymmetric unit. The Sb atom exhibits a distorted pseudo-trigonal–bipyramidal coordination, with the phenyl groups and the lone pair of electrons in equatorial positions and N-bonded thiocyanate and Cl− ligands in axial positions.
Pineapple peel biochar and lateritic soil as adsorbents for recovery of ammonium nitrogen from human urine.
2021
Abstract Human urine is a rich source of nitrogen which can be captured to supplement the existing sources of nitrogen fertilizers thus contributing to enhanced crop production. However, urine is the major contributor of macronutrients in municipal wastewater flows resulting into eutrophication of the receiving water bodies. Herein, pineapple peel biochar (PPB), and lateritic soil (LS) adsorbents were prepared for the safe removal of ammonium nitrogen (NH4+-N) from human urine solutions. Physicochemical properties of PPB, and LS were characterized by scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy…
Synthesis of Nanofibrillated Cellulose by Combined Ammonium Persulphate Treatment with Ultrasound and Mechanical Processing
2018
Ammonium persulfate has been known as an agent for obtaining nanocellulose in recent years, however most research has focused on producing cellulose nanocrystals. A lack of research about combined ammonium persulfate oxidation and common mechanical treatment in order to obtain cellulose nanofibrils has been identified. The objective of this research was to obtain and investigate carboxylated cellulose nanofibrils produced by ammonium persulfate oxidation combined with ultrasonic and mechanical treatment. Light microscopy, atomic force microscopy (AFM), powder X-Ray diffraction (PXRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and Zeta potential measure…
Experimental assessment of reverse electrodialysis in closed loop configuration fed by NH4HCO3-water solutions
2018
Closed loop reverse electrodialysis is a novel technology for converting low-temperature waste heat into electric energy. This innovative heat engine consists of two units: (i) a reverse electrodialysis unit where power is produced exploiting the concentration difference between a diluted and a concentrated salt solution and (ii) a thermally driven regeneration unit where low-grade waste heat is used to re-establish the original salinity gradient between the two salt solutions. Among all the possible salt solutions suitable as working fluid in such application, Thermolytic salts solutions, in particular Ammonium bicarbonate solutions, may be promising thanks to their characteristic thermall…
Cs0.86(NH41.14SO4Te(OH)6 in porous anodic alumina for micro fuel cell applications.
2011
Abstract Cs0.86(NH4)1.14SO4Te(OH)6 supported by anodic alumina membranes (AAMs) has been characterized for the first time in H2/O2 fuel cell. The fabricated membrane electrode assemblies are able to produce peak power densities in the range 15–30 mW cm−2 under mild conditions (room temperature, low humidity and low Pt loading) and show an increased durability with cycling with respect to previous results obtained with AAM-based fuel cell. The physico-chemical characterization of the electrolytes has been carried out through X-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy and micro-raman analysis. An estimation of the composite membranes conductance under fuel cell operation has been carr…
