MoS2 nanotube bundles, along with embedded nested fullerenes, were formed in a gas-phase reaction of molybdenum carbonyl and H2S gas with the assistance of I2. The amorphous Mo-S-I precursor particles obtained by quenching a modified metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) reaction in a large temperature gradient were annealed at elevated temperature in an inert atmosphere. Under the influence of the iodine, the amorphous precursor formed a surface film with an enhanced mobility of the molybdenum and sulfur components. A series of glassy 6-(tert-butyl)-4H-pyran-4-ylidene malononitrile (DCM) derivatives with covalently attached amorphous state promoting bulky 1,1,1-triphenylmethyl (trityl) moieties through several chemical design approaches have been synthesized and investigated for suitability in organic solid state laser applications. Results showed that the bonding type of such functional groups had a considerable influence on glass structure forming dye thermal properties and a slight influence on their optical properties. Abstract In this work we investigate by Raman spectroscopy the effect of isochronal (2 h) thermal treatments in air in the temperature range 200–1000 °C of amorphous silicon dioxide porous nanoparticles with diameters ranging from 5 up to 15 nm and specific surface 590–690 m2/g. Electrosynthesis of Sn-Co nanowires in alumina membranes

A fabrication process of amorphous nanowires of Sn-Co alloys, based on electrodeposition into anodic alumina membranes, is described. It is shown that nanowires of tin-cobalt alloys with different compositions can be produced by varying electrodeposition time and concentration ratio of salts dissolved into the electrolytic bath. Importance of the chelating agent to produce amorphous Sn-Co alloys has also been addressed. Shells of adult individuals from two different bivalve families, Hyriopsis cumingii and Diplodon chilensis patagonicus, were studied by Micro-Raman spectroscopy and Focussed Ion Beam-assisted TEM. The shells contain amorphous calcium carbonate in a zone at the interface between the periostracum and the prismatic layer. In this area, the initial prism structures protrude from the inner periostracum layer and it is demonstrated that these structures systematically consist of highly disordered and amorphous calcium carbonate. X-ray photoelectron spectra of the valence band and X-ray-excited O KLL Auger transition of pumice-supported Pd and Pt catalysts have been obtained and compared to the corresponding spectra of pumice (a naturally occurring amorphous aluminosilicate). The changes observed indicate interaction between metal and support. The valence region of the catalysts consists of three large peaks: one due to the d band of the metals and the other to the O 2p non-bonding orbitals and bonding-type orbitals formed by a mixing of the atomic orbitals (O 2p, Si 3s and Si 3p) of oxygen and silicon from the support.
