A search for point sources of EeV neutrons

A thorough search of the sky exposed at the Pierre Auger Cosmic Ray Observatory reveals no statistically significant excess of events in any small solid angle that would be indicative of a flux of neutral particles from a discrete source. The search covers from −90◦ to +15◦ in declination using four different energy ranges above 1 EeV (1018 eV). The method used in this search is more sensitive to neutrons than to photons. The upper limit on a neutron flux is derived for a dense grid of directions for each of the four energy ranges. These results constrain scenarios for the production of ultrahigh energy cosmic rays in the Galaxy.
Fine-scale estimations of bioclimatic change in the Valencia region, Spain

Recent advances in statistical downscaling have allowed the reconstruction of temperatures for the complete 1948–2011 period in a spatial resolution of 90 m and without gaps for the Valencian Community (Spain) and bordering areas. It presently enables analyses in this region, which allows the determination of recent temperature changes at subregional and local scales. The present work focuses on obtaining the thermicity index according to Rivas-Martínez, a well-known indicator of different thermotypes associated with bioclimatic horizons. Statistical downscaling and attribution of air temperature change patterns in the Valencia region (1948–2011)

This study is based on the statistical downscaling and spatial interpolation of high-resolution temperatures (90 m) over the 1948–2011 period performed for the Valencia Region (east Iberian Peninsula) after considering local topographical factors in the fine-scale distribution of temperatures. The objective was to detect the areas that were potentially more vulnerable to air temperature change. This allowed the detection of local climate change patterns, which were analyzed and found to be consistent in spatial and temporal terms. This paper is based on the premise that “some of the basic skills needed to understand film and television are identical to those necessary for natural visual perception” (Grodal 1999: 76). Perception is an unconscious and natural way of interpreting our environment based on prior experience and learning. Self-efficacy beliefs of university students: an empirical study on the specificity of the construct

This study tested two propositions of the Social Cognitive Theory in an academic setting: a) Self-efficacy is a domain- specific competence belief; b) Domain-specific selfefficacy is related, but distinct from, other self-evaluation constructs. Participants (272 Spanish university students) completed measures of general self-efficacy, academic self-efficacy, statistics self-efficacy and attitudes towards statistics (cognitive and affective components). Principal Components Analyses and Confirmatory Factorial Analyses were performed, among other procedures. Taken as a whole, results support the propositions tested.
