Preliminary results on the influence of car characteristics on their gases emissions using gas sensors

Abstract A method, based on the use of monitoring portable sensors, has been successfully employed for the determination of the composition of car exhausts from 11 diesel and 5 gasoline cars. These emissions include nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The measures were taken in different places where each car was parked. In this study it has been tried to correlate the emitted gases with some of the car characteristics, such as the power (varied from 68 to 143 HP), the number of kilometers traveled and the age of the car (between 2 and 19 years). Lower mantle hydrogen partitioning between periclase and perovskite : a quantum chemical modelling

Abstract Partitioning of hydrogen (often referred to as H2O) between periclase (pe) and perovskite (pvk) at lower mantle conditions (24–80 GPa) was investigated using quantum mechanics, equilibrium reaction thermodynamics and by monitoring two H-incorporation models. One of these (MSWV) was based on replacements provided by Mg2+ ↔ 2H+ and Si4+ ↔ 4H+; while the other (MSWA) relied upon substitutions in 2Mg2+ ↔ Al3+ + H+ and Si4+ ↔ Al3+ + H+. High-resolution spectroscopy and analysis of the nu3/2nu4 dyad of CF4

International audience; CF4 is a strong greenhouse gas of both anthropogenic and natural origin [D.R. Worton et al., Environ. Sci. Technol. 41, 2184 (2007)]. However, high-resolution infrared spectroscopy of this molecule has received only a limited interest up to now. Until very recently, the public databases only contained cross-sections for this species, but no detailed line list. We reinvestigate here the strongly absorbing ν3 region around 7.8 μm. Multi-Crop Green LAI Estimation with a New Simple Sentinel-2 LAI Index (SeLI)

The spatial quantification of green leaf area index (LAIgreen), the total green photosynthetically active leaf area per ground area, is a crucial biophysical variable for agroecosystem monitoring. The Sentinel-2 mission is with (1) a temporal resolution lower than a week, (2) a spatial resolution of up to 10 m, and (3) narrow bands in the red and red-edge region, a highly promising mission for agricultural monitoring. Determination of water speciation in hydrous haplogranitic glasses with partial Raman spectra

Abstract We use a mathematical approach to decompose the Raman water band at 3000 cm−1 to 3750 cm−1 into two partial Raman spectra corresponding to the individual Raman activity of the two water species, i.e., molecular water (H2Om) and OH-groups, present in hydrous rhyolitic glasses. The approach is based on a least-squares optimization algorithm and the assumption that the water band can be expressed as a linear combination of two partial Raman spectra. Nitrogen broadening of SF6 transitions in the nu3 band

Abstract Nitrogen induced pressure-broadened halfwidths of a number of ν3 transitions of SF6 are calculated using the complex Robert–Bonamy (CRB) formalism. The calculations are made at 200, 250, 296 and 350 K and the temperature dependence of the halfwidths are determined. The intermolecular potential is taken as a sum of the leading electrostatic and Lennard-Jones [6] , [7] , [8] , [9] , [10] , [11] , [12] atom–atom components. Chlorine Partitioning Between a Basaltic Melt and H2O-CO2 Fluids at Mount Etna

Partitioning experiments between a basaltic melt from Mt. Etna and a low-density hydrous fluid or vapor containing H(2)O or H(2)O-CO(2) were performed at 1200-1260 degrees C, at pressures between 1 and 200 MPa, either near the nickel-nickel oxide (NNO) buffer or at two log units above it (NNO + 2), and with different chloride concentrations. Most of the experiments were done at chloride-brine-undersaturated conditions, although at the highest Cl concentrations explored brine saturation might have been reached.
