Numerical studies on neutrino oscillation physics in long baseline experiments

This thesis examines the prospects of future long baseline neutrino oscillation experiments. Using computer simulation techniques, we calculate the experimental sensitivities for two experimental configurations in a set of important questions which are all relevant for modern day neutrino physics. First, we set focus on the determination of the θ23 octant, where the aim is to find whether the atmospheric neutrino mixing angle θ23 lies in the high octant, θ23 > 45◦, or in the low octant, θ23 < 45◦. Many modern multivariate time series datasets contain a large amount of noise, and the first step of the data analysis is to separate the noise channels from the signals of interest. A crucial part of this dimension reduction is determining the number of signals. Nudge for justice : An ERP investigation of default effects on trade-offs between equity and efficiency

Default options are an increasingly common tool used by organizations, managers, and policymakers to guide individuals’ behavior. We wondered whether the known preference for default options could constitute a nudge to achieve more equitable or more efficient results. Combining with event-related potentials, we found that both the default option and distributive justice contributed significantly to decision-making. The N200s and P300s were extracted using the tensor decomposition, which showed superiority in terms of capturing multi-domain features. Tutkielmassa tarkastellaan kahden kulttuurin perheessä kasvaneiden nuorten aikuisten kokemuksia kahden kulttuurin kasvattina varttumisesta ja sen merkityksistä itselle, omalle elämälle ja (kulttuuri-)identiteetille. Myös muutokset nuorten suhteessa kaksikulttuurisuuteensa ovat tarkastelun kohteena. Tutkimusaineisto on kerätty keväällä 2015 Duo-hankkeen järjestämässä Kahden kulttuurin kasvatit -nettiteemaryhmässä sekä kaksikulttuurisille nuorille suuntaamallani Internet-kyselyllä.
