Abstract Introduction Fashioning a patent, watertight anastomosis in patients with esophageal atresia is a challenging task in pediatric surgery, particularly when performed under tension. A reproducible suture-less alternative would decrease operative time. We evaluated magnetic esophageal compression anastomoses in a novel bypass-loop swine model. SUMMARY Aim: The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between fecal incontinence and quality of life after low anterior resection and long-term follow-up. Methods: For 72 patients with coloanal or low colorectal anastomosis, the quality of life was determined by the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) questionnaires C-30 and CR-38. The Vaizey score was used for assessment of fecal incontinence. Results: The risk of fecal incontinence significantly increased with a lower level of anastomosis (p < 0.001). The median-to-ulnar communicating branch (MUC) is an asymptomatic variant of the upper limb innervation that can lead to interpretation errors in routine nerve conduction studies. The diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) or ulnar nerve lesions can be complicated by the presence of MUC. In this study, we describe electrophysiological features of MUC in CTS patients presenting to our clinic.
