Memory and Religion in the Greek World
2013
The necessity to build a common base of shared values on which to establish any type of social relationship and overcome the use of violence for the resolution of arguments has often found more effective answers drawing from the sacred sphere and its resources. With its complex verbal and gestural structure and its close connection with the other effective enunciated forms the oath is an instrument, both religious and political at the same time, which permits the preservation of the memory of the expressed affirmations and the commitments taken on. Thanks to the convergence of actions and words, both functional towards the creation of binding situations, the oath is a guarantee as much on t…
Memoria, spazio, identità. Una premessa
2023
Memory, which has always been a subject of research and reflection, entered by right with Émile Durkheim and Marcel Mauss into the space of 'total social facts', i.e. the group of those aspects of human behaviour that support the ideological structure of social universes and regulate the capacity to perform a given action, regardless of intentionality, of both individuals and groups. What emerges is the problematic nature of the very nature of memory and its relationship to history and historians.

Ancient Artistic Motifs on Italian Memorials from the Unity to the Aftermath of World War I
2022
In the decades subsequent to the unification of the Kingdom of Italy, achieved in 1861 with the proclamation of Vittorio Emanuele II as the king of the new State, the Italian peninsula became covered with many commemorative monuments. These were devoted, first of all, to honour the men who played a leading role in the heroic deeds of the Risorgimento but also to remember the places where the major historical events occurred. Afterwards as well, the Italian State went on erecting memorials, in order to celebrate other facts and casualties, as it happened on the occasion of the unsuccessful colonial attempts in the African land and then, above all, after the World War I. Many of these commemo…
