Time reversal violation for entangled neutral mesons

2013

A direct evidence for Time Reversal Violation (TRV) means an experiment that, considered by itself, clearly shows TRV independent of, and unconnected to, the results for CP Violation. No existing result before the recent BABAR experiment with entangled neutral B mesons had demonstrated TRV in this sense. There is a unique solution for the test of TRV with unstable particles thanks to the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) Entanglement between the two neutral mesons in B, and φ, Factories. The two quantum effects of the decays as filtering measurements of the meson states and the transfer of information of the first decay to the still living partner allow performing a genuine TRV asymmetry with t…

Novel T-violation observable open to any decay channel at meson factories

2015

Two genuine Quantum phenomena: Entanglement and Filtering Measurement are at the origin of the first direct observation of Time-Reversal-Violation in the time evolution of the B neutral meson system by BaBar. The used meson transitions are directly connected to semileptonic and CP-eigenstate decay channels. We analyse the possibility of extending the observable asymmetries to more decay channels. We propose an alternative T-Violation Asymmetry in the meson factories which allows its opening to any pair of decay channels. The new asymmetry needs also the measurement of the time dependent total survival probability of the initial tagged states. By combining several asymmetries these total sur…

Group-Theoretic analysis of the mixing angle in the electroweak gauge group

1996

In this paper the authors provide strong mathematical support for the idea that the experimentally measured magnitude 1 - M{sub W}{sup 2}/M{sub Z}{sup 2} associated with sin{sup 2}{theta}{sub w} in the standard model of electroweak interactions cannot be simultaneously identified with the squared quotient of the electric charge by the SU(2) charge, e{sup 2}/g{sup 2}. In fact, the natural, mathematical requirement that the Weinberg rotation between the gauge fields associated with the third component of the {open_quotes}weak isospin{close_quotes} (T{sub 3}) and the hypercharge (Y) proceeds from a global Lie-group homomorphism of the SU(2) {circle_times} U(1){sub y} gauge group in some locall…

Entanglement swapping in a Franson interferometer setup

2007

We propose a simple scheme to swap the non local correlations, characteristic of a Franson interferometric setup, between pairs of frequency entangled photons emitted by distinct non linear crystals in a parametric down conversion process. Our scheme consists of two distinct sources of frequency entangled photons. One photon of each pair is sent to a separate Mach - Zender interferometer while the other photons of the pairs are mixed by a beam splitter and then detected in a Ou - Mandel interferometer. For suitably postselected joint measuremetns, the photons sent at the Mach -Zender show a coincidence photocount statistics which depends non locally on the settings of the two interferometer…

Resolution-enhanced optical coherence tomography based on classical intensity interferometry.

2009

We propose a fourth-order interference scheme for optical coherence tomography operating with broadband incoherent (or quasi-incoherent) light. It is shown that using this proposal, an axial resolution improvement by a factor of 2 and a better sensitivity for weakly reflecting samples are obtained than with the standard second-order correlation scheme. From a practical perspective, we suggest the use of broadband Q-switched pulses and performing ultrafast intensity correlation with a nonlinear crystal. The global performance of our proposal is illustrated by means of numerical simulations

Simulations of Precessing Jets

2003

We report on the results of a three-dimensional, relativistic, hydrodynamical simulation of a precessing jet through which a compact blob of matter is set to propagate. We conclude that the morphology of superluminal sources is the result of a complex combination of phase motions, viewing angle selection effects, and non-linear interactions between perturbations and the underlying jet and/or external medium.

GENERATION OF ENTANGLED STATES OF TWO DISTANT CAVITY MODES VIA JOSEPHSON JUNCTION BASED DEVICES

2007

We present a simple scheme for the preparation of entangled states of the e.m. modes of two spatially separated microwave cavities exploiting their interaction with two superconducting SQUID rings embedded within them. The scheme requires that the two SQUID qubits are initially prepared in an entangled state and the possibility of controlling both the coupling strengths and the interaction times. We also briefly discuss the importance of such a theoretical scheme in view of possible applications in the context of quantum computing and its experimental feasibility.

“Nonlocal” dispersion cancellation with classical light

2009

Nonlocal dispersion cancellation [1] is a quantum phenomenon that relies on the use of a quantum light source, e.g., spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC), providing temporally entangled photon pairs. Each photon in the pair propagates through a dispersive medium [see Fig. 1 (a)]. Under suitable conditions the dispersion of one photon cancels out the dispersion of the other photon, so that their intensity coincidence probability remains unchanged. Nonlocal dispersion cancellation has been experimentally demonstrated [2] and this phenomenon has subsequently triggered important applications in quantum information science, such as quantum-optical coherence tomography, distant clock syn…

MOJAVE: MONITORING OF JETS IN ACTIVE GALACTIC NUCLEI WITH VLBA EXPERIMENTS. VII. BLAZAR JET ACCELERATION

2009

We discuss acceleration measurements for a large sample of extragalactic radio jets from the Monitoring Of Jets in Active Galactic Nuclei with VLBA Experiments (MOJAVE) program, which studies the parsec-scale jet structure and kinematics of a complete, flux-density-limited sample of active galactic nuclei (AGNs). Accelerations are measured from the apparent motion of individual jet features or 'components' which may represent patterns in the jet flow. We find that significant accelerations are common both parallel and perpendicular to the observed component velocities. Parallel accelerations, representing changes in apparent speed, are generally larger than perpendicular acceleration that r…

Hidden entanglement in the presence of random telegraph dephasing noise

2012

Entanglement dynamics of two noninteracting qubits, locally affected by random telegraph noise at pure dephasing, exhibits revivals. These revivals are not due to the action of any nonlocal operation, thus their occurrence may appear paradoxical since entanglement is by definition a nonlocal resource. We show that a simple explanation of this phenomenon may be provided by using the (recently introduced) concept of "hidden" entanglement, which signals the presence of entanglement that may be recovered with the only help of local operations.
