Hybrid quantum repeater for qudits

2017

We present a "hybrid quantum repeater" protocol for the long-distance distribution of atomic entangled states beyond qubits. In our scheme, imperfect noisy entangled pairs of two qudits, i.e., two discrete-variable $d$-level systems, each of, in principle, arbitrary dimension $d$, are initially shared between the intermediate stations of the channel. This is achieved via local, sufficiently strong light-matter interactions, involving optical coherent states and their transmission after these interactions, and optical measurements on the transmitted field modes, especially (but not restricted to) efficient continuous-variable homodyne detections ("hybrid" here refers to the simultaneous expl…

SU-E-T-218: Octavius 4D: Commissioning and Clinical Implementation of a New Device for VMAT Verifications

2013

Purpose: To commission a new device for pre‐treatment patient specific verification of VMAT plans, which is capable of reconstructing 3D dose with high resolution. Methods: Octavius 4D system (PTW) consists of an ion chamber array embedded in a cylindrical phantom which, assisted by an inclinometer, rotates synchronously with the gantry. For VMAT plans, it measures planar dose distributions as a function of gantry angle in order to compute the resulting 3D dose distribution. There are two options for the ion chamber array: Octavius 729 (general purpose) and Octavius 1000 SRS (small field size, high resolution). We have used three linacs: two Varian Clinac iX and one TrueBeam with MLC HD 120…

Waves Propagation in Turbulent Superfluid Helium in Presence of Combined Rotation and Counterflow

2010

A complete study of the propagation of waves (namely longitudinal density and temperature waves, longitudinal and transversal velocity waves and heat waves) in turbulent superfluid helium is made in three situations: a rotating frame, a thermal counterflow, and the simultaneous combination of thermal counterflow and rotation. Our analysis aims to obtain as much as possible information on the tangle of quantized vortices from the wave speed and attenuation factor of these different waves, depending on their relative direction of propagation with respect to the rotation vector.

Long-Time Preservation of Nonlocal Entanglement

2009

We investigate how nonlocal entanglement, as identified by violations of a Bell inequality, may be preserved during the evolution. Our system consists of two qubits each embedded in a zero-temperature bosonic reservoir evolving independently and initially in an entangled mixed state. We show that the violation of the Bell inequality can be related to the single-qubit population of excited state in such a way that, by appropriately choosing structured environments that give rise to sufficiently high values of population trapping, long-time preservation of nonlocal entanglement can be correspondingly achieved.

Intraenvironmental correlations in the ground state of a nonisolated two-state particle

1996

The existence of entanglement in the ground state of a two-level particle coupled to a bosonic environment is proved. The quantum covariances of pairs of simple dynamical variables relative to different subsystems are explicitly shown to be bounded. Physically interpretable conditions for the occurrence of weak intraenvironmental correlations are reported and discussed. The potentialities of our treatment are briefly put into evidence.

Pair transfer processes probed at deep sub barrier energies

2011

Multinucleon transfer cross sections in the system 40 Ca+ 96 Zr have been measured at bombarding energies ranging from the Coulomb barrier to ~ 25% below. Target-like (lighter) recoils in inverse kinematics have been completely identif ed in A,Z and Q-value with the large solid angle magnetic spectrometer PRISMA. The experimental slopes of the neutron transfer probabilities at large internuclear separation are consistent with the values derived from the binding energies. A phenomenological interpretation of the transfer probabilities indicates the presence of enhanced values for the even number of neutron transfers.

Resolving the Fe xx v Triplet with Chan d r a in Centaurus X-3

2005

We present the results of a 45 ks Chandra observation of the high-mass X-ray binary Cen X-3 at orbital phases between 0.13 and 0.40 (in the eclipse post-egress phases). Here we concentrate on the study of discrete features in the energy spectrum at energies between 6 and 7 keV, that is, on the iron Kα line region, using the High Energy Transmission Grating Spectrometer (HETGS) on board the Chandra satellite. We clearly see a Kα neutral iron line at ~6.40 keV and were able to distinguish the three lines of the Fe XXV triplet at 6.61, 6.67, and 6.72 keV, with equivalent widths of 6, 9, and 5 eV, respectively. The equivalent width of the Kα neutral iron line is 13 eV, an order of magnitude low…

Test of band structure calculations for Heusler compounds by spin-resolved photoemission spectroscopy

2012

The electronic density of states of epitaxial thin films of the Heusler compound Co${}_{2}$MnGa is probed in situ by spin-resolved ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy. The experiments reveal several characteristic features in the intensity spectrum and a clear Fermi edge signature. A high spin polarization of $\ensuremath{\simeq}\phantom{\rule{-0.16em}{0ex}}55%$ at the Fermi edge is followed by a sign change at the binding energy of $\ensuremath{\simeq}$0.8 eV. Corresponding calculations of the band structure and the photoemission spectrum were performed employing a spin-polarized relativistic Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker code. Good agreement between the experimental data and calculations was …

Thermal localizable entanglement in a simple multipartite system

2009

The quantum correlations present in a system of three coupled spins 12 in a thermal state are investigated. Localizable entanglement, as well as concurrence function, is exactly evaluated. The results obtained show the existence of a temperature range corresponding to which it is impossible to localize entanglement.

Entangling N high-Q cavities

2004

A new conditional scheme for generating maximally entangled states of N spatially separated high-Q cavities is reported. The method is based on the passage of one atom only through all the N cavities. The unavoidable presence of fluctuations in the atom-cavity interaction times is carefully taken into account. The possibility of successfully implementing our proposal against cavity losses and atomic spontaneous decay is moreover discussed.
