Selective writing and read-out of a register of static qubits
2013
We propose a setup comprising an arbitrarily large array of static qubits (SQs), which interact with a flying qubit (FQ). The SQs work as a quantum register, which can be written or read-out by means of the FQ through quantum state transfer (QST). The entire system, including the FQ's motional degrees of freedom, behaves quantum mechanically. We demonstrate a strategy allowing for selective QST between the FQ and a single SQ chosen from the register. This is achieved through a perfect mirror located beyond the SQs and suitable modulation of the inter-SQ distances.
Quantum Correlation Dynamics in Controlled Two-Coupled-Qubit Systems
2020
We study and compare the time evolutions of concurrence and quantum discord in a driven system of two interacting qubits prepared in a generic Werner state. The corresponding quantum dynamics is exactly treated and manifests the appearance and disappearance of entanglement. Our analytical treatment transparently unveils the physical reasons for the occurrence of such a phenomenon, relating it to the dynamical invariance of the X structure of the initial state. The quantum correlations which asymptotically emerge in the system are investigated in detail in terms of the time evolution of the fidelity of the initial Werner state.

Superradiant Quantum Phase Transition for an Exactly Solvable Two-Qubit Spin-Boson Model
2023
A spin-boson-like model with two interacting qubits is analysed. The model turns out to be exactly solvable since it is characterized by the exchange symmetry between the two spins. The explicit expressions of eigenstates and eigenenergies make it possible to analytically unveil the occurrence of first-order quantum phase transitions. The latter are physically relevant since they are characterized by abrupt changes in the two-spin subsystem concurrence, in the net spin magnetization and in the mean photon number.

Increasing the flexural capacity of RC beams using steel angles and pre-tensioned stainless steel ribbons
2016
This article presents an experimental programme on reinforced concrete beams retrofitted with steel angles and pre-stressed stainless steel ribbons to increase their flexural strength and ductility. Two different configurations of the steel ribbon were designed, and two companion specimens for each type considered were subjected to a four-point bending test to facilitate a direct comparison in the analysis of the effectiveness of the retrofitting technique. The influence of longitudinal steel angles and transverse stainless steel ribbons is analysed, and the concrete confinement due to stainless steel ribbons examined. The strengthened beams show remarkable increments in flexural strength a…
Macular Structure–Function Relationships of All Retinal Layers in Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma Assessed by Microperimetry and 8 × 8 Posterior Pole Ana…
2021
Purpose: The aim of this study is too correlate the sensitivity and thickness values of intraretinal layers at macula in healthy eyes and primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) eyes. Methods: The thickness of different intraretinal segmentations was estimated by means of optical coherence tomography (OCT) Spectralis (Heidelberg, Engineering, Inc., Heidelberg, Germany) with the posterior pole analysis program 8 × 8 in 91 eyes from 91 patients (60 with glaucoma and 31 healthy patients). Macular sensitivity was also measured with an MP-1 microperimeter (Nidek Instruments, Inc Padova, Italy) with a customized, 36-stimulus pattern adjusted to an anatomical correspondence with the OCT grid. Hypovitaminosis D, oral potentially malignant disorders, and oral squamous cell carcinoma: a systematic review
2021
Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and potentially malignant oral disorders (OPMDs) could be associated with low levels of vitamin D. This systematic review aimed to determine the relationship between serum levels of vitamin D with OPMDs and OSCC. This review was conducted according to Cochrane guidelines (PROSPERO CRD42020207382) on literature retrieved from the PubMed, Cochrane, and Web of Science databases. The antecedents extracted were study design, methodology, sample (country, number of patients, age, and sex), oral manifestations (type of lesion, location, prevalence, and follow-up), serum vitamin D levels or use of vitamin D supplements, results, and conclusions. Twelve articles w…
3,4,5-Trimethoxy-4'-methylbiphenyl
2013
In the title compound, C16H18O3, the dihedral angle between the benzene rings is 33.4 (2)°. In the crystal, molecules are packed in a zigzag arrangement along the b-axis and are interconnected via weak C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds, and C—H⋯π interactions involving the methoxy groups and the benzene rings of neighbouring molecules.
3,5-Dimethoxy-4'-methylbiphenyl
2013
The title compound, C15H16O2, crystallizes with three independent molecules in the asymmetric unit. The intramolecular torsion angle between the aromatic rings of each molecule are −36.4 (3), 41.3 (3) and −37.8 (3)°. In the crystal, the complicated packing of the molecules forms wave-like layers along the b and c axes. The molecules are connected via extensive methoxy–phenyl C—H…π interactions. A weak C—H…O hydrogen-bonding network also exists between methoxy O atoms and aromatic or methoxy H atoms.
