Influence of first and second premolar extraction or non-extraction treatments on mandibular third molar angulation and position. A comparative study.

2009

The mandibular third molar (3M) is the tooth that is most often impacted, with lack of space being one of the reasons. In some orthodontic treatments, premolars are extracted in order to create space. The aims of our study are: firstly, to assess the changes in the angulation and position of the 3M in cases treated either with or without extraction of the first or second premolars; secondly, to analyse the variation in the gonial angle and the degree of inclusion of the 3M; and lastly, to establish a predictive impaction model for 3M. This study included 88 patients: 28 patients treated with extractions of first premolars, 30 with second premolars and 30 without. The initial and final ortho…

Maxillary peripheral keratocystic odontogenic tumor. A clinical case report

2017

The keratocystic odontogenic tumor is a benign odontogenic cystic neoplasia characterized by its thin, squamous epithelium with superficial parakeratosis. It has the potential for infiltration and local aggressiveness and has a high rate of recurrence. This neoplasia is predominantly found in males and people of white origin. The mandible is the most frequently involved site, in particular the third molar region, mandibular angle, and ramus. It has a mandible-maxilla ratio of 2:1. Only about twenty cases of peripheral keratocystic odontogenic tumors (PKCOT) have been reported in the international literature. This study presents a case of PKCOT localized in the anterior region of the maxilla…

Association between eruption state of the third molar and the occurrence of mandibular angle fractures.

2015

Background/Aim Fractures of the mandible, especially the mandibular angle, are one of the most frequent types of injuries of the facial skeleton. In many cases, a retained third molar can be found in the line of the fracture. However, it remains unclear whether a relationship between third molars and mandibular angle fractures exists. Materials and Methods Patients with isolated or combined fractures of the lower jaw between January 2001 and December 2007 were analyzed retrospectively. Electronic health records were investigated regarding the types of mandibular fractures, and panoramic radiographs were reviewed concerning the existence of third molars. In addition, a systematic review was …

Wetting ability of an acetone/based etch rinse adhesive after NaOCl-treatment

2011

Objectives: to evaluate the effect of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) treatment on surface dentin roughness (Ra) and contact angle (CA) when using Prime&Bond NT adhesive (PB NT). Study Design: Extracted human third molars were sectioned to expose flat, superficial and deep dentin surfaces. CA and Ra were measured (1) before and (2) after 35% H3PO4 etching, and (3) H3PO4 etching + 5% NaOCl treated for 2 minutes before the application of PB NT. CA was measured by the Axisymmetric Drop Shape Analysis Technique using distilled and deionized water and PB NT. Roughness was evaluated with a profilometer, twelve radial measurements were performed in each treatment surface. Data were analyzed with two-w…

Do third molars weaken the mandibular angle?

2010

Objective: The purpose of this study is to estimate how is the magnitude of the impact of a mandibular third molar on the mandibular angle stiffness. Study Design: It was performed a literature search on whole MEDLINE and LILACS data base to find articles that match the following inclusion criteria: cohort studies presenting data on patients with mandibular fractures and third molars; that had a similar angle fracture definition; and that present data available to be cross-classified in a statistic analysis. Results: The sample was composed by 4 studies, involving 2533 patients from USA, Nigeria, Germany and Jordan, evaluated between 1976 and 2001. The analysis of the sample shows a relativ…

Synthesis, structure and properties of N-acetylated derivatives of methyl 5-amino-1H-[1,2,4]triazole-3-carboxylate.

2004

Methyl 5-amino-1H-[1,2,4]triazole-3-carboxylate hydrochloride (1). and free ester (2). were obtained and 2 was reacted with Ac(2)O to give the acetylated products 3-6. Compounds 1-6 were studied using HPLC, GC-MS, FTIR and multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, including the cross-polarisation magic angle spinning (CPMAS) technique. The results of the acetylation of 2 were compared to those of the acetylation of 5-amino-1H-[1,2,4]triazole, and for 2 a significant decrease in the susceptibility to acetylation was found. The reaction of 2 with Ac(2)O at 20 degrees C, regardless of the amount and the concentration of the latter, including neat Ac(2)O, proceeds fully regioselectively and leads to one p…

Conformational dynamics of active site loops 5, 6 and 7 of enzyme Triosephosphate Isomerase: A molecular dynamics study

2018

AbstractTriosephosphate Isomerase is a glycolytic enzyme catalyzing the interconversion of Dihydroxyacetone phosphate to Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate. The active site is comprised of three distinct loops loop-6, loop-7 and loop-8. Based on loop-6 and loop-7 conformation we describe the enzyme as Open TIM and Closed TIM. Various NMR, X-ray crystallography and QM/MM simulation techniques have provided glimpses of individual events of what is essentially a dynamic process. We studied the conformational changes of two distinct loops (loop-6 and loop-7) enveloping the active site, in the presence of natural substrate, reaction intermediates and inhibitor molecules, by means of microsecond atomisti…

Principal part of multi-parameter displacement functions

2012

This paper deals with a perturbation problem from a period annulus, for an analytic Hamiltonian system [J.-P. Françoise, Ergodic Theory Dynam. Systems 16 (1996), no. 1, 87–96 ; L. Gavrilov, Ann. Fac. Sci. Toulouse Math. (6) 14(2005), no. 4, 663–682. The authors consider the planar polynomial multi-parameter deformations and determine the coefficients in the expansion of the displacement function generated on a transversal section to the period annulus. Their first result gives a generalization to the Françoise algorithm for a one-parameter family, following [J.-P. Françoise and M. Pelletier, J. Dyn. Control Syst. 12 (2006), no. 3, 357–369. The second result expresses the principal terms in …

On the nature of morphological features in phase-separated (PEO)nNaSCN mixtures: a SAXS investigation

2000

Abstract The SAXS technique is used to throw light on the morphology of phase-separated poly(ethylene oxide)n–sodium thiocyanate [(PEO)nNaSCN] mixtures. A temperature-dependent investigation is reported for (PEO)4.5NaSCN. (PEO)nNaSCN mixtures show a complex phase behaviour. At the investigated composition, a crystalline complex (CC) is formed between PEO and NaSCN. The considered composition is representative of thermodynamic states where three different phases coexist simultaneously: crystalline PEO (CPEO), amorphous PEO (APEO) and crystalline complex (CC). Various SAXS data analysis approaches are presented to understand the nature of these coexisting phases. Invariant analysis shows a bi…

Effective collecting area of lobster eye optics and optimal value of effective angle

2019

Effective collecting area represents one of principal parameters of optical systems. The common requirement is to obtain as large effective collecting area as it is possible. The paper presents an analytical method of calculating effective collecting length and its maximization for lobster eye optics. The results are applicable for a Schmidt as well as for an Angel lobster eye geometry used in an astronomical telescope where the source is at infinity such that the incoming rays are parallel. The dependence of effective collecting area vs. geometrical parameters is presented in a form of a simple compact equation. We show that the optimal ratio between mirrors depth and distance (effective a…
