Formal theory for two-particle channels
1991
The general formalism has been developed over many years by various authors. One starting point is the work of de Swart (DSw 59) who has considered electric multipoles in the long-wave-length limit using the Siegert theorem and as magnetic contribution only the dipole spin-flip transition. The T-matrix is then expanded in terms of reduced multipole amplitudes. This approach has been generalized by Donnachie (Don 62a) and Partovi (Par 64) by including higher electric and magnetic multipoles. Furthermore, the electric multipoles are not restricted to the long-wave-length limit and the additional terms besides the Siegert operators (see section 4.1) are included. Using techniques from angular …
The Mechanics of Rigid Bodies
1990
The theory of rigid bodies is a particularly important part of general mechanics. Firstly, next to the spherically symmetric mass distributions that we studied in Sect. 1.30, the top is the simplest example of a body with finite extension. Secondly, its dynamics is a particularly beautiful model case to which one can apply the general principles of canonical mechanics and where one can study the consequences of the various space symmetries in an especially transparent manner.
Solution of the Skyrme–Hartree–Fock–Bogolyubov equations in the Cartesian deformed harmonic-oscillator basis.
2012
We describe the new version (v2.38j) of the code hfodd which solves the nuclear SkyrmeHartree-Fock or Skyrme-Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov problem by using the Cartesian deformed harmonic-oscillator basis. In the new version, we have implemented: (i) projection on good angular momentum (for the Hartree-Fock states), (ii) calculation of the GCM kernels, (iii) calculation of matrix elements of the Yukawa interaction, (iv) the BCS solutions for statedependent pairing gaps, (v) the HFB solutions for broken simplex symmetry, (vi) calculation of Bohr deformation parameters, (vii) constraints on the Schiff moments and scalar multipole moments, (viii) the D T transformations and rotations of wave functio…
Excitation spectra of aHe3impurity onHe4clusters
2004
The diffusion Monte Carlo technique is used to calculate and analyze the excitation spectrum of a single $^{3}\mathrm{He}$ atom bound to a cluster with $N$ $^{4}\mathrm{He}$ atoms, with the aim of establishing the most adequate filling ordering of single-fermion orbits to the mixed clusters with a large number of $^{3}\mathrm{He}$ atoms. The resulting ordering looks like the rotational spectrum of a diatomic molecule, being classified only by the angular momentum of the level, although vibrational-like excitations appear at higher energies for sufficiently large $N$.
Distilling angular momentum nonclassical states in trapped ions
2004
In the spirit of Quantum Non-Demolition Measurements, we show that exploiting suitable vibronic couplings and repeatedly measuring the atomic population of a confined ion, it is possible to distill center of mass vibrational states with well defined square of angular momentum or, alternatively, angular momentum projection Schr\"odinger cat states.
Large angular-momentum changing in a short half-cycle pulse interaction with a Rydberg atom
1999
We show that, in contrast to multiphoton absorption in atoms, the remote region from a nucleus is dominant in the process of a half-cycle pulse interaction with a Rydberg atom, and that this interaction produces a very large change in the angular momentum of the electron. We have found good agreement between classical trajectory Monte Carlo, semiclassical, and quantum-mechanical calculations for the energy distribution of the electron.
Nuclear Shape Transitions and Some Properties of Aligned-Particle Configurations at High Spin
1983
Two topics are addressed in this paper. First, we discuss the variation of shapes with spin and neutron number for nuclei in the N approx. = 88 transitional region. Second, we present comments on the feeding times of very high spin single-particle yrast states.
Coherent vector pi-pulse in optical amplifiers
2007
We obtain an exact vector solitary solution for the amplification of an optical pulse with a time width short compared with both population and polarization decay time. This dissipative soliton results from the balance between the gain from inverted resonant two-level atoms and the linear loss of the host material. We suppose that the excited state of the active centers is degenerate on the projection of the angular moment. Numerical simulations demonstrate the stability of these vector dissipative solitons in the presence of both linear birefringence and group velocity dispersion of the host material.
Polarization shaping for unidirectional rotational motion of molecules.
2015
Control of the orientation of the angular momentum of linear molecules is demonstrated by means of laser polarization shaping. For this purpose, we combine two orthogonally polarized and partially time-overlapped femtosecond laser pulses so as to produce a spinning linear polarization which in turn induces unidirectional rotation of N2 molecules. The evolution of the rotational response is probed by a third laser beam that can be either linearly or circularly polarized. The physical observable is the frequency shift imparted to the probe beam as a manifestation of the angular Doppler effect. Our experimental results are confirmed by theoretical computations, which allow one to gain a deep p…
Electric-Field-Induced Symmetry Breaking of Angular Momentum Distribution in Atoms
2006
We report the experimental observation of alignment to orientation conversion in the 7D_3/2 and 9D_3/2 states of Cs in the presence of an external dc electric field, and without the influence of magnetic fields or atomic collisions. Initial alignment of angular momentum states was created by two-step excitation with linearly polarized laser radiation. The appearance of transverse orientation of angular momentum was confirmed by the observation of circularly polarized light. We present experimentally measured signals and compare them with the results of a detailed theoretical model based on the optical Bloch equations.
