Angular distributions in quasi-fission reactions: Evidence for incomplete relaxation of the tilting mode
1985
Angular distributions of fission-like fragments have been measured for50Ti+208Pb and56Fe+208Pb collisions. Z-dependent asymmetries around Θincm= 90° preclude their interpretation in terms of compound nucleus fission with the transition state theory. Fits of the data with a simple ansatz for statistical angular momentum fluctuations (tilting) give evidence for an incomplete relaxation of the tilting mode in quasi fission reactions.
Unsubtracted dispersion-relation for longitudinal compton amplitude
1975
Abstract It is shown that there is a simple connection between the slope, at q2 = 0, of the longitudinal Compton amplitude and the electric polarizability of the nucleon. The longitudinal subtraction function is thus known to order q2. The assumption of an unsubtracted dispersion relation for the longitudinal amplitude leads to a sum rule for the electric polarizability. This is a model independent test of the high-energy behaviour of the forward virtual Compton amplitude.
Prompt and delayed spectroscopy ofAt199
2010
The neutron-deficient nucleus $^{199}\mathrm{At}$ has been studied through $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray and electron spectroscopy, using the recoil-decay tagging technique. Two experiments were conducted, using a gas-filled recoil separator with a focal-plane spectrometer alone and together with a germanium-detector array at the target position. The resulting level scheme for $^{199}\mathrm{At}$ includes a new isomer with a half-life of 0.80(5) $\ensuremath{\mu}$s and a spin and parity of ($29/{2}^{+}$). The $13/{2}^{+}$ isomer, which de-excites via an $M2$ transition to the $9/{2}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ ground state, was measured to have a half-life of 70(20) ns. Our earlier version of the level s…
Level structure of170Er observed in the decay of the 2.76 min170Ho
1978
TheΒ−-decay of the longer-lived170Ho isomer produced through the170Er(n, p)170Ho reaction has been investigated by using a versastile detector and coincidence equipment. The half-life andΒ−-decay energy were determined to beT1/2=2.76±0.05 min andQβ =3.85±0.15 MeV, respectively. In addition to the ground state band and some higher energy levels, the proposed level scheme of170Er contains 11 states between 1.0 and 1.6 MeV (6 new ones), which are connected mutually by previously unknown low-energy transitions. Spin and/or parity assignments based mainly on coincidence data and multipolarity determinations are suggested for most of these states. By using systematic considerations and the nuclea…
Angular momentum projection of cranked Hartree-Fock states: Application to terminating bands inA~44nuclei
2007
We present the first systematic calculations based on the angular-momentum projection of cranked Slater determinants. We propose the Iy --> I scheme, by which one projects the angular momentum I from the 1D cranked state constrained to the average spin projection of =I. Calculations performed for the rotational band in 46Ti show that the AMP Iy --> I scheme offers a natural mechanism for correcting the cranking moment of inertia at low-spins and shifting the terminating state up by ~2 MeV, in accordance with data. We also apply this scheme to high-spin states near the band termination in A~44 nuclei, and compare results thereof with experimental data, shell-model calculations, and res…
Kerman-Onishi conditions in self-consistent tilted-axis-cranking mean-field calculations
2013
\item[Background] For cranked mean-field calculations with arbitrarily oriented rotational frequency vector $\boldsymbol{\omega}$ in the intrinsic frame, one has to employ constraints on average values of the quadrupole-moment tensor, so as to keep the nucleus in the principal-axis reference frame. Kerman and Onishi [Nucl. Phys. A {\bf 361}, 179 (1981)] have shown that the Lagrangian multipliers that correspond to the required constraints are proportional to $\boldsymbol{\omega} \times \boldsymbol{J}$, where $\boldsymbol{J}$ is the average angular momentum vector. \item[Purpose] We study the validity and consequences of the Kerman-Onishi conditions in the context of self-consistent tilted-a…
Microscopic description of low-lying two-phonon states: Electromagnetic transitions
2003
Microscopic description of low-lying two-phonon states in even-even nuclei is introduced. The main building blocks are the quasiparticle random-phase approximation (QRPA) phonons. A realistic microscopic nuclear Hamiltonian, based on the Bonn one-boson-exchange potential, is diagonalized in a basis containing one-phonon and two-phonon components, coupled to a given angular momentum and parity. The QRPA equations are directly used in deriving the equations of motion for the two-phonon states. The Pauli principle is taken into account by diagonalizing the metric matrix and discarding the zero-norm states. The electromagnetic transition matrix elements are derived in terms of the metric matrix…
On the yrast two proton-two neutron hole states in208Po
1978
High-spin levels in208Po, populated in the208Pb(α,4n)-reaction, were studied usingα-particles in the energy region 41–51 MeV. The energies of levels above the 6+ level have an uncertainty of about 10 keV due to the fact that the 8+→6+ transition has not been observed so far, but this transition has previously been established to be converted neither in theK-shell nor in theL-shells. It was found that the yrast cascade ofγ-rays from a 19+ level at 5896+e keV feeds levels of lower spin which all can be explained as originating from two proton-two neutron hole configurations. In the higher part of the cascade it is mainly the neutron holes which change their configuration, while the lower part…
Ground-state spins and moments of72,74,76,78Ga nuclei
2011
Laser spectroscopy was performed on the ${}^{72,74,76,78}$Ga isotopes at On-Line Isotope Mass Separator (ISOLDE) facility, CERN. Ground-state nuclear spins and moments were extracted from the measured hyperfine spectra. The results are compared to shell-model calculations, which provide a detailed probe of the nuclear wave function. The spin is established from the shape of the hyperfine structure and the parity inferred from a comparison of shell-model calculations with the measured nuclear moments. The ground states of ${}^{76,78}$Ga are both assigned a spin and parity of ${I}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}={2}^{\ensuremath{-}}$, while ${}^{74}$Ga is tentatively assigned as ${I}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}={3…
Measuring the black hole spin direction in 3D Cartesian numerical relativity simulations
2015
We show that the so-called flat-space rotational Killing vector method for measuring the Cartesian components of a black hole spin can be derived from the surface integral of Weinberg's pseudotensor over the apparent horizon surface when using Gaussian normal coordinates in the integration. Moreover, the integration of the pseudotensor in this gauge yields the Komar angular momentum integral in a foliation adapted to the axisymmetry of the spacetime. As a result, the method does not explicitly depend on the evolved lapse $\ensuremath{\alpha}$ and shift ${\ensuremath{\beta}}^{i}$ on the respective time slice, as they are fixed to Gaussian normal coordinates while leaving the coordinate label…
