Field-Induced Slow Magnetic Relaxation In the First Dy(III)-centered 12-Metallacrown-4 Double-Decker
2019
The reaction of Dy(O2CMe)3·xH2O and Ga(NO3)3·xH2O led to the isolation of (nBu4N)[GaIII8DyIII(OH)4(shi)8] (1). The compound possesses a unique chemical structure enclosing the central magnetic DyIII ion between diamagnetic GaIII-based metallacrown 12-MC-4 ligands. The double-decker complex exhibits field-induced single-molecule magnet (SMM) behaviour with an effective energy barrier (Ueff) of 39 K (27.1 cm−1). Consistent with the observed slow relaxation of magnetization, theoretical calculations suggest a ground state mainly determined by |±11/2> in the easy axis direction.

A new hyperelastic model for anisotropic hyperelastic materials with one fiber family
2016
International audience; The main goal of this study is to propose a practical application of a new family of transverse anisotropic invariants by designing a strain energy function (SEF) for incompressible fiber-reinforced materials. In order to validate the usability and creativeness of the proposed model, two different fiber-reinforced rubber materials under uniaxial and shear testing are considered. For each kind of material, numerical simulations based on the proposed model are consistent with experimental results and provide information about the effect of the new family of invariants in the construction of the SEF.
Giant Spin Seebeck Effect through an Interface Organic Semiconductor
2019
Interfacing an organic semiconductor C60 with a non-magnetic metallic thin film (Cu or Pt) has created a novel heterostructure that is ferromagnetic at ambient temperature, while its interface with a magnetic metal (Fe or Co) can tune the anisotropic magnetic surface property of the material. Here, we demonstrate that sandwiching C60 in between a magnetic insulator (Y3Fe5O12: YIG) and a non-magnetic, strong spin-orbit metal (Pt) promotes highly efficient spin current transport via the thermally driven spin Seebeck effect (SSE). Experiments and first principles calculations consistently show that the presence of C60 reduces significantly the conductivity mismatch between YIG and Pt and the s…
Spin-polarized scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy of ultrathinFe∕Mo(110)films usingW∕Au∕Cotips
2006
We report on magnetic contrast observed in low-temperature spin-polarized scanning tunneling microscopy (SP-STM) of Fe nanowires deposited on Mo(110) using tungsten tips covered by $\mathrm{Au}∕\mathrm{Co}$ thin films. Due to the spin reorientation transition of Co films on Au an out-of-plane magnetic sensitivity is obtained for tips with thin cobalt films (up to 8 monolayers of Co), while for thicker Co coverages an in-plane magnetization component can be probed. Using $\mathrm{W}∕\mathrm{Au}∕\mathrm{Co}$ tips with out-of-plane magnetic sensitivity we show that the one (ML) and two (DL) atomic layers thick Fe nanowires prepared using step flow growth on a Mo(110) crystal are perpendicularl…
Heisenberg Exchange and Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya Interaction in Ultrathin Pt(W)/CoFeB Single and Multilayers
2021
We present results of the analysis of Brillouin light-scattering (BLS) measurements of spin waves performed on ultrathin single and multirepeat CoFeB layers with adjacent heavy metal layers. From a detailed study of the spin-wave dispersion relation, we independently extract the Heisenberg exchange interaction (also referred to as symmetric exchange interaction), the Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interaction (DMI, also referred to as antisymmetric exchange interaction), and the anisotropy field. We find a large DMI in CoFeB thin films adjacent to a Pt layer and nearly vanishing DMI for CoFeB films adjacent to a W layer. Furthermore, the influence of the dipolar interaction on the dispersion relatio…
Stiffness design of laminates using the polar method
2001
This paper is devoted to the analysis of elastic properties of anisotropic laminas using the so-called polar representation method: this is an effective mathematical tool to analyse two-dimensional elastic problems. By this method, the authors have been able to find a particular class of solutions to some special inverse problems concerning laminates made by anisotropic layers. The properties of these solutions are described and discussed, along with some general results.
Forces and deformations of the abdominal wall—A mechanical and geometrical approach to the linea alba
2011
Force-elongation responses of the human abdominal wall in the linea alba region were determined by tensile tests in which the linea alba was seen to exhibit a nonlinear elastic, anisotropic behavior as is frequently observed in soft biological tissues. In addition, the geometry of the abdominal wall was determined, based on MRI data. The geometry can be specified by principal radii of curvature in longitudinal of approximately 470 mm and in the transverse direction of about 200 mm. The determined radii agree with values found in other studies. Mechanical stresses, deformations and abdominal pressures for load cases above 6% elongation can be related using Laplace's formula and our constitut…
Highly Anisotropic Wave Propagation in All-Dielectric Active Waveguides
2018
In this communication, we integrate an active planar waveguide on a birefringent substrate to show experimental evidence of a selective propagation of the spontaneous emission into the propagating. An anisotropic response with significantly-reduced directional excitation along the optic axis as compared with its perpendicular direction is observed. We additionally provide a theoretical modal analysis of the planar microstructure, which is in good agreement with our experimental results.
A new method for generating fully isotropic laminates
2002
In this paper the authors propose some new kinds of isotropic laminates, made with identical anisotropic layers. In particular, these laminates satisfy some conditions which generalise the well-known Werren and Norris rules, in order to obtain fully isotropy, that is, isotropy of the three tensors A, B and D. To this purpose, the authors utilise some results found in a preceding research, namely the so-called quasi-trivial solutions. The way to form particular isotropic laminates that do not follow the Werren and Norris rule is also indicated. The paper ends with some numerical examples which illustrate the theoretical results found.
