Measurement of theB0→π−l+νForm-Factor Shape and Branching Fraction, and Determination of|Vub|with a Loose Neutrino Reconstruction Technique
2007
We report the results of a study of the exclusive charmless semileptonic decay, B-0 ->pi(-)center dot(+)nu, undertaken with approximately 227x10(6) BB pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector. The analysis uses events in which the signal B decays are reconstructed with an innovative loose neutrino reconstruction technique. We obtain partial branching fractions in 12 bins of q(2), the momentum transfer squared, from which we extract the f(+)(q(2)) form-factor shape and the total branching fraction B(B-0 ->pi(-)l(+)nu)=(1.46 +/- 0.07(stat)+/- 0.08(syst))x10(-4). Based on a recent unquenched lattice QCD calculation of the form factor in the range q(2)> 16 GeV2, we f…
Measurement of theCPAsymmetry inb→sγUsing a Sum of Exclusive Final States
2008
We perform a measurement of the CP asymmetry in b → sγ decays using a sample of 383×10^6 B[overline]B events collected by the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric B factory. We reconstruct 16 flavor-specific B decay modes containing a high-energy photon and a hadronic system X_s containing an s quark. We measure the CP asymmetry to be -0.011±0.030(stat)±0.014(syst) for a hadronic system mass between 0.6 and 2.8 GeV/c^2.
New methods of evaluation of the flavor composition in e+ e- annihilation by double hemisphere tagging at LEP / SLC energies
1995
Two new methods are proposed to extract the flavour contents of the events produced at LEP/SLC, together with the classification matrix of a tagging by hemispheres. By utilising the tagging obtained in both hemispheres, the efficiencies, backgrounds and flavour compositions are directly obtained by fitting the data. A minimal dependence on modelling and a consistent treatment of systematic errors are achieved by applying these methods. The choice of the tagging algorithm is irrelevant in the methods, provided that similar efficiencies are reached. As an example, a multivariate analysis technique combining the tracking information given by a microvertex detector has been applied to extract t…
Determination of the number of J/psi events with J/psi -> inclusive decays
2012
The number of J/psi events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPC II from June 12 to July 28, 2009 is determined to be (225.3 +/- 2.8) x 10(6) using J/psi -> inclusive events, where the uncertainty is the systematic error and the statistical one is negligible.
Improved measurement of the CKM angleγinB∓→D(*)K(*)∓decays with a Dalitz plot analysis ofDdecays toKS0π+π−andKS0K+K−
2008
We report on an improved measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa CP-violating phase {gamma} through a Dalitz plot analysis of neutral D meson decays to K{sub s}{sup 0}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -} and K{sub s}{sup 0}K{sup +}K{sup -} produced in the processes B{sup {-+}} {yields} DK{sup {-+}}, B{sup {-+}} {yields} D* K{sup {-+}} with D* {yields} D{pi}{sup 0}, D{gamma}, and B{sup {-+}} {yields} DK*{sup {-+}} with K8{sup {-+}} {yields} K{sub S}{sup 0}{pi}{sup {-+}}. Using a sample of 383 million B{bar B} pairs collected by the BABAR detector, we measure {gamma} = (76 {+-} 22 {+-} 5{+-} 5){sup o} (mod 180{sup o}), where the first error is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic unc…
Dominant Three-Body Decays of a Heavy Higgs and Top Quark
1993
We calculate the dominant three body Higgs decays, $H \to W^+W^-(Z^0, \gamma)$ and $H \to t\overline{t}(Z^0,\gamma ,g)$, in the Standard Model. We find that the branching ratios of these decays are of the order of few percent for large Higgs masses. We comment on the behaviour of the partial decay width $\Gamma (H \to t\overline{b}W^-)$ below the $t\overline{t}$ threshold. Numerical results of the following three body top decays, $t \to W^+b(\gamma ,g,Z^0)$ and $t \to W^+bH$, are also given. We discuss the feasibility of observing these Higgs and top decays at future high energy colliders.
A Symmetry Adapted Approach to the Dynamic Jahn-Teller Problem
2011
In this article we present a symmetry-adapted approach aimed to the accurate solution of the dynamic Jahn-Teller (JT) problem. The algorithm for the solution of the eigen-problem takes full advantage of the point symmetry arguments. The system under consideration is supposed to consist of a set of electronic levels \({\Gamma }_{1},{\Gamma }_{2}\ldots {\Gamma }_{n}\) labeled by the irreducible representations (irreps) of the actual point group, mixed by the active JT and pseudo JT vibrational modes \({\Gamma }_{1},{\Gamma }_{2}\ldots {\Gamma }_{f}\) (vibrational irreps). The bosonic creation operators b +(Γγ) are transformed as components γ of the vibrational irrep Γ. The first excited vibra…
Neutrino probes of the nature of light dark matter
2011
Dark matter particles gravitationally trapped inside the Sun may annihilate into Standard Model particles, producing a flux of neutrinos. The prospects of detecting these neutrinos in future multi-\kton{} neutrino detectors designed for other physics searches are explored here. We study the capabilities of a 34/100 \kton{} liquid argon detector and a 100 \kton{} magnetized iron calorimeter detector. These detectors are expected to determine the energy and the direction of the incoming neutrino with unprecedented precision allowing for tests of the dark matter nature at very low dark matter masses, in the range of 5-50 GeV. By suppressing the atmospheric background with angular cuts, these t…
Effect of magnetic field on the corrosion of iron and St20 steel as studied by positron annihilation
2010
Lifetime spectra of positron annihilation in iron and St20 steel corroded in the water solution of HCl and in vapour above its surface have been investigated with emphasis on the effect of corrosion time and environment (solution or vapour) as well as of the presence and orientation of the magnetic field on the measured positron annihilation parameters. All the registered positron lifetime spectra consist of two components. For corroded samples the intensities of the two components as well as the corresponding values of the mean positron lifetime, differ from those for uncorroded material. The corrosion-induced changes in the positron annihilation parameters depend on the corrosion environm…
