Electrochemical identification of metal ions in archaeological ceramic glazes by stripping voltammetry at graphite/polyester composite electrodes

2002

The electrochemical response of metal ions in different samples of coloured ceramic tin-lead glazes attached to graphite/polyester composite electrodes is described. In addition to the ubiquous signals for lead, reductive dissolution processes are followed by anodic stripping peaks for Co, Cu, Sb, Mn, Sn and Fe, enabling the direct identification of such elements in microsamples proceeding from archaeological glazed tiles from Valencia (Spain) workshops (16th-18th century). Additional anodic and cathodic peaks corresponding to redox processes involving metal species in solution generated during stripping processes are also used. Peak potentials, Tafel plots and shape parameters are used for…

Nanoporous alumina membranes filled with solid acid for thin film fuel cells at intermediate temperatures

2004

Thin film fuel cells have been fabricated by impregnation of inorganic porous membranes with inorganic proton conductor. Anodic alumina membranes (50 μm thick and pore diameter of 200 nm), filled with CsHSO4 salt have been used as protonic conductor in a hydrogen-oxygen fuel cell working between 423 and 443 K in dry atmosphere. Polarization curves at 433 K showing ohmic control with open circuit values near 0.8 V and short circuit current around 8 mA cm−2 have been obtained. Possible causes of degradation as well as alternative routes to overcome some of the problems encountered with this approach will be reported. Superconducting properties of Nb thin films deposited on porous silicon templates

2008

Porous silicon, obtained by electrochemical etching, has been used as a substrate for the growth of nanoperforated Nb thin films. The films, deposited by UHV magnetron sputtering on the porous Si substrates, inherited their structure made of holes of 5 or 10 nm diameter and of 10 to 40 nm spacing, which provide an artificial pinning structure. The superconducting properties were investigated by transport measurements performed in the presence of magnetic field for different film thickness and substrates with different interpore spacing. Perpendicular upper critical fields measurements present peculiar features such as a change in the H_c2(T) curvature and oscillations in the field dependenc…

Electromechanical coupling in anodic niobium oxide: Electric field-induced strain, internal stress, and dielectric response

2012

Seemingly, contradictory results have been reported so far for electrostriction in anodic oxides. Furthermore, no definitive agreement could be obtained with theory. In this paper, in situ techniques are combined to elucidate electrostriction in anodic niobium oxide. The dependence of strain, internal stress, and dielectric constant on the electric field is measured by, respectively, spectroscopic ellipsometry, curvature, and impedance measurements. The through-thickness strain is tensile and proportional to the square of the electric field. The in-plane internal stress is compressive and proportional to the square of the electric field at low field values. The internal stress is predicted …

Inverse-voltammetric determination of bismuth in biomaterials with computer assisted peak evaluation. part 3. Bismuth determination in wine, grapes a…

1989

The ultra trace element bismuth is regulary found in wine on an average of about 0.1 ppb. Very low bismuth contents were also determined in soil and different biomaterials. In spite of those very low quantities even speciation experiments show results, so far that about 90% of the bismuth in the grapes is water-soluble, resumably as saccharic acids. For detecting such low quantities a very sensitive method of differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry was developped. The speciation experiments were carried out by fractional extraction.

Graphical analysis of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy of two consecutive irreversible electron transfers. 2. Zinc anodic dissolution in acid m…

2006

The graphical analysis of the impedance plots is used in the study of the electrodic systems that take place through two consecutive single electron transfers. The zinc anodic dissolution is studied by using this procedure. The characteristic points easily allow us to explain and to simulate the impedance behavior of this electrodic system according to the steady-state potential and the roughness of the working electrode. The direct procedure for parametrical identification from the graphical analysis allows us to reduce the time needed for an impedance experiment. This graphical analysis is suggested for studying thin coated galvanized steels.

Correlationship between microscopic observations and electrochemical behaviour of different kind of galvanized steel.

2005

Zinc anodic dissolution has been studied according to the steel galvanized method by means of the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and microscopic observations. Relevant information on the galvanized method is provided by the analysis of experimental data. The galvanized method has no influence on the kinetics parameters of the zinc anodic dissolution process. The galvanized method only changes the surface texture of the working electrode. Thus, the EIS fitting allows to calculate the fractal dimension of the surface of the working electrode.
