Charge dynamics in molecular junctions: nonequilibrium Green's function approach made fast

2014

Real-time Green's function simulations of molecular junctions (open quantum systems) are typically performed by solving the Kadanoff-Baym equations (KBE). The KBE, however, impose a serious limitation on the maximum propagation time due to the large memory storage needed. In this work we propose a simplified Green's function approach based on the Generalized Kadanoff-Baym Ansatz (GKBA) to overcome the KBE limitation on time, significantly speed up the calculations, and yet stay close to the KBE results. This is achieved through a twofold advance: first we show how to make the GKBA work in open systems and then construct a suitable quasi-particle propagator that includes correlation effects …

Measurement of the hadronic form factor inD0→K−e+νedecays

2007

We present a preliminary measurement of the q2 dependence of the D0 --> K- e+ nu_e decay rate. This rate is proportional to the hadronic form factor squared, specified by a single parameter. This is either the mass in the simple pole ansatz m_pole = (1.854 +- 0.016 +- 0.020) GeV/c2 or the scale in the modified pole ansatz alpha_pole = 0.43 +- 0.03 +- 0.04. The first error refers to the statistical, the second to the systematic uncertainty.

Asymptotic analysis of the form-factors of the quantum spin chains

2020

Since a long-time, the quantum integrable systems have remained an area where modern mathematical methods have given an access to interesting results in the study of physical systems. The exact computations, both numerical and asymptotic, of the correlation function is one of the most important subject of the theory of the quantum integrable models. In this context an approach based on the calculation of form factors has been proved to be a more effective one. In this thesis, we develop a new method based on the algebraic Bethe ansatz is proposed for the computation of the form-factors in thermodynamic limit. It is applied to and described in the context of isotropic XXX Heisenberg chain, w…

Exact Solution of Quantum Optical Models by Algebraic Bethe Ansatz Methods

1996

From long standing interests in solitons and integrable systems, e.g. SIT (1968– 74)1,2, “optical solitons” CQ04 (1977)3, we solve exactly, by algebraic Bettie ansatz (= quantum inverse) methods4, models of importance to quantum optics including the quantum Maxwell-Bloch envelope equations for plane-wave quantum self-induced transparency (SIT) in one space variable (x) and one time (t)2; and in the one tinte (t)5 a family of models surrounding and extending the Tavis-Cummings model6 of N 2-level atoms coupled to one cavity mode for ideal cavity (Q = ∞) QED. Additional Kerr type nonlinearities or Stark shifted levels can he incorporated into the Hamiltonian H of one of the most general model…

The rate of photon production in the quark-gluon plasma from lattice QCD

2020

We calculate the thermal rate of real-photon production in the quark-gluon plasma at a temperature of $T=254$ MeV using lattice QCD. The calculation is based on the difference between the spatially transverse and longitudinal parts of the polarization tensor, which has the advantage of falling off rapidly at large frequencies. We obtain this linear combination in the time-momentum representation from lattice QCD with two flavors of quarks in the continuum limit with a precision of about two parts per mille. Applying a theoretically motivated fit ansatz for the associated spectral function, we obtain values for the photon rate that are in line with QCD weak-coupling calculations; for photon …

Hadron correlators and the structure of the quark propagator

1994

The structure of the quark propagator of $QCD$ in a confining background is not known. We make an Ansatz for it, as hinted by a particular mechanism for confinement, and analyze its implications in the meson and baryon correlators. We connect the various terms in the K\"allen-Lehmann representation of the quark propagator with appropriate combinations of hadron correlators, which may ultimately be calculated in lattice $QCD$. Furthermore, using the positivity of the path integral measure for vector like theories, we reanalyze some mass inequalities in our formalism. A curiosity of the analysis is that, the exotic components of the propagator (axial and tensor), produce terms in the hadron c…

The soliton-soliton interaction in the Chiral Dilaton Model

2012

We study the interaction between two B = 1 states in the Chiral Dilaton Model where baryons are described as nontopological solitons arising from the interaction of chiral mesons and quarks. By using the hedgehog solution for B = 1 states we construct, via a product ansatz, three possible B = 2 configurations to analyse the role of the relative orientation of the hedgehog quills in the dynamics of the soliton-soliton interaction and investigate the behavior of these solutions in the range of long/intermediate distance. One of the solutions is quite binding due to the dynamics of the pi and sigma fields at intermediate distance and should be used for nuclear matter studies. Since the product…

Charmed and Bottom Baryons: a Variational Approach based on Heavy Quark Symmetry

2003

The use of Heavy Quark Symmetry to study bottom and charmed baryons leads to important simplifications of the non-relativistic three body problem, which turns out to be easily solved by a simple variational ansatz. Our simple scheme reproduces previous results (baryon masses, charge and mass radii, $...$) obtained by solving the Faddeev equations with simple non-relativistic quark--quark potentials, adjusted to the light and heavy--light meson spectra. Wave functions, parameterized in a simple manner, are also given and thus they can be easily used to compute further observables. Our method has been also used to find the predictions for strangeness-less baryons of the SU(2) chirally inspire…

Spherical multiquark states in the chiral bag model

1984

Abstract We study n-quark systems (n = 3, 6, 12) in the chiral bag model. In order to handle the non-linearities of the model, the hedgehog ansatz for the Goldstone pion field is used. It is found that due to “warping” of the quark orbits in the presence of mean-field pion clouds, a strong repulsion is developed when more than three quarks are put in a bag. This repulsion mechanism turns out to be close to the soliton mechanism discovered by Skyrme two decades ago. Even the magnitude of the repulsion agrees with his. It is also possible to relate the repulsion to the effective quenching of the axial charge of the multiquark system and a suggestion is made that the recently observed quenchin…

This Master’s thesis of general history focuses on the social interaction between ethnic Finns and Native Americans in North America c. 1850—1950. The research aims to cover the nature of the interaction phenomenon in question as well as the social statuses of both groups and the attitudes expressed by them concerning the other. The analysis is based on biographical source material supported by documents, interviews and academic literature emphasizing both the Finns and the Native Americans who were in contact with each other during the aforementioned era. The analysis conducted in this thesis highlights that the majority of the interaction between Finns and Native Americans took place in t…
