AbstractThe neural responses to simple tones and short sound sequences have been studied extensively. However, in reality the sounds surrounding us are spectrally and temporally complex, dynamic and overlapping. Thus, research using natural sounds is crucial in understanding the operation of the brain in its natural environment. Music is an excellent example of natural stimulation which, in addition to sensory responses, elicits vast cognitive and emotional processes in the brain. This article analyses the contents of the manuscripts in Latin script found at the Villa Farnese of Caprarola and the Palazzo della Cancelleria of Rome at the death of Cardinal Alessandro Farnese (1520-1589). They were inventoried by Claudio Tobalducci, librarian to the Cardinal; the inventories were edited by Francois Fossier. Although the manuscript collections seem neither organic nor systematically constituted by the Cardinal (the volumes were mainly borrowed from the great Farnese library in the Palazzo Farnese in Rome), the manuscripts were used by the Cardinal in the last years of his life. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on tarkastella tanskalaisen filosofin Erich Klawonnin argumentteja minä-substanssin puolesta ja englantilaisen filosofin Gilbert Rylen kritiikkiä kartesiolaiselle dualismille. Klawonn argumentoi, että ruumis ja mieli ovat kaksi erillistä substanssia, fyysinen ja aineeton minä-substanssi. Hänelle minä-substanssi edustaa sellaista, jolla on kattavat piirteet. Adaptation to fluctuations in temperature by nine species of bacteria

Rapid environmental fluctuations are ubiquitous in the wild, yet majority of experimental studies mostly consider effects of slow fluctuations on organism. To test the evolutionary consequences of fast fluctuations, we conducted nine independent experimental evolution experiments with bacteria. Experimental conditions were same for all species, and we allowed them to evolve either in fluctuating temperature alternating rapidly between 20°C and 40°C or at constant 30°C temperature. Tässä tutkielmassa tarkastellaan finanssikriisin vaikutuksia Yhdysvaltoihin, IsoBritanniaan ja Saksaan sijoittavien osakerahastojen suoriutumiseen vuosina 2001 - 2015. Tutkimustulokset finanssikriisin vaikutuksesta rahastojen suoriutumiseen ovat toistaiseksi melko vähäisiä ja ne kattavat yleensä korkeintaan muutaman kriisivuoden. Suoriutumisen arviointi perustuu Faman ja Frenchin (2015) viiden faktorin hinnoittelumallin alfa-arvon tulkintaan. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli tuoda kuvailevaa tietoa hiljaisten hetkien merkityksistä ja funktioista vaikeassa pariterapiaistunnossa.
