Antroponymie potomků zelówských Čechů

2016

The initial part of the article presents a brief history of Czech people in Polish Zelów as well as characteristics of this group of residents. The main part concerns description of names of descendants of Czech residents of Zelów. Material for analysis comes from tombstone inscriptions of the cemetery of the Evangelical-Reformed parish in Zelów. Authoress emphasizes that on the one hand anthroponyms reflect history, culture, and realities of life and on the other hand contacts with other nations. In this regard, she indicates those elements that attest to Czech continuum and characteristics of the phenomenon of linguistic and cultural assimilation of this group of Zelów’s residents.

Zola «onomaturge»: le sens et la portée symbolique des anthroponymes dans "Les Rougon-Macquart"

2016

Throughout the twenty volumes of his monumental novel series, Emile Zola carefully chose his characters’ family names and given names, looking for clues in authentic documents or inventing some new anthroponyms himself. The main principle of the relation between a character and his/her family name is the name’s meaning and the symbolical significance hidden in its phonetic and semantic structure. As far as the given names are concerned, their choice usually seems to be determined by irony, the writer’s favorite literary technique.

Popular toponomastics pathways in Sicily: contacts between categories and new connotations

2014

It operates in two directions: the first one is that of onomaturgy, the second one takes into account overextensions, secondary connotations and people's consciousness of places. The first issue moves from the reflections resulted from the collection of ethnic nicknames (or blasons pupulaires) in Sicily. In particular, we start from the observation according to which popular anthroponyms can contribute to generate in speakers popular toponyms that follow a pathway of overlapping/substitution like the one concerning ethnics and blasons populaires. The second issue regards official t…
