In diesem Buch ist die Geschichte der Wiederentdeckung des Palimpsests mit den Gaius-Institutionen durch Barthold Georg Niebuhr neu verhandelt. Die jüngst wiederbelebte These von einer „angekündigten Entdeckung“ wird in Frage gestellt. Das verzerrte Bild des Niebuhrschen Fundes in der Sicht dieser These ist kein Zufall. Es stellt sich vielmehr als später Nachklang wissenschaftlicher Querelen jener Zeit dar. The contribution deals with some hermeneutical positions of classical Jurists concerning the beneficia imperialia from the point of view of their deviating from the ‘ratio iuris’. The Author – by recalling the metodological warning of Alberto Burdese about paying vigilant and cautious attention for the textual data – examines some sources which regard the relationship between beneficia and regulae iuris and between beneficia, aequitas, utilitas and the attribution of the interpretation of beneficia directly to the Emperor.

I ‘vasi di Centuripe’: per un approccio integrato

Il contributo intende evidenziare le prospettive di un approccio interdisciplinare integrato allo studio della ceramica policroma “di Centuripe”. Dagli inizi del XX secolo, tale classe ha riscosso ampio apprezzamento per le sue delicate pitture e la ricchezza di ornamenti a rilievo applicati (dipinti e dorati) che abbelliscono i vasi, rendendoli pressoché inutilizzabili nella pratica per scopi funzionali, ma altamente efficaci come doni funerari in antico, e oggi come pezzi di grande impatto per commercianti di antichità e collezionisti moderni.
