2016
Fifty weevil species have been recorded from new localities in Poland. They belong to four families: Anthribidae (1), Apionidae (6), Nanophyidae (2) and Curculionidae (41). The new records, 124 in all, are from 64 UTM squares (10×10 km) in 17 of 24 regions of Poland, according to the division adopted from the Catalogus Faunae Poloniae issued in 1971-2000. Nearly half of them (57) are first records for a region. The largest numbers of the new records are from the Małopolska Upland (13), the Pomeranian Lakeland (8), Upper Silesia (7) and the Wielkopolsko-Kujawska Lowland (5). Kyklioacalles navieresi (Boh.) has been recorded from Poland for the first time, whereas K. roboris (Curtis) has been …
Inheritance patterns of photoperiodic diapause induction in Leptinotarsa decemlineata
2016
Photoperiod is a reliable indicator of season and an important cue that many insects use for phenological synchronization. Undergoing range expansion insects can face a change in the local photoperiod to which they need to resynchronize. Rapid range expansion can be associated with rapid photoperiodic adaptation, which can be associated with intense selection on strongly heritable polygenic traits. Alternatively, it is proposed that, in insects with an XO sex-determination system, genes with large effect residing on the sex chromosome could drive photoperiodic adaptation because the gene or genes are exposed to selection in the sex carrying only a single X-chromosome. The present study seek…
Vascular Microarchitecture of Murine Colitis-Associated Lymphoid Angiogenesis
2009
In permissive tissues, such as the gut and synovium, chronic inflammation can result in the ectopic development of anatomic structures that resemble lymph nodes. These inflammation-induced structures, termed lymphoid neogenesis or tertiary lymphoid organs, may reflect differential stromal responsiveness to the process of lymphoid neogenesis. To investigate the structural reorganization of the microcirculation involved in colonic lymphoid neogenesis, we studied a murine model of dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced colitis. Standard 2-dimensional histology demonstrated both submucosal and intramucosal lymphoid structures in DSS-induced colitis. A spatial frequency analysis of serial histolog…
Therapeutic metaphors and personal meanings in group poetry therapy for people with schizophrenia
2021
This article concerns the therapeutic potential of metaphor in group poetry therapy, concentrating on the poetry therapy process of people diagnosed with schizophrenia. Miocene fossil cercopithecoids from Kenya
1986
Fossil cercopithecoid material from Ngeringerowa, Ngorora, and Nakali, dated at between 8.5 and 10.5 m.y., is described. The specimens are the only cercopithecoid remains dated between 15 and 6 m.y. from sub-Saharan Africa. The mandible of asmall colobine from Ngeringerowa (similar in size to Colobus verus) is assigned to a new genus and species, Microcolobus tugenensis. Unlike other colobine genera, the symphysis of Microcolobus lacks an inferior transverse torus. A colobine lower M1 or 2 from Nakali is longer and narrower than molars of M. tugenensis, indicating that it may belong to a distinct taxon. A P4 from Ngorora cannot be assigned confidently to subfamily, due to its unique metacon…
Contenido factorial y comercio España-Mercosur
1999

Investigating Aid Effectiveness in Developing Countries: The Case of Nepal
2020
Foreign aid serves as an important source of capital for any developing or under-developed country. It is very important to see how the recipient country can utilize this aid in the economic upliftment of the nation. Taking a case of Nepalese economy, this paper investigates the effectiveness of foreign aid in developing countries. The result from Johansen’s cointegration test reveals that foreign aid independently is not adequate for the economic growth. Increased capital and technological infrastructures, improved skills on human capital, on the other hand, significantly changes the result for the positive aid impact on growth in the long run. Therefore, we can conclude that a good policy…
