DNA binding of L1 is required for human papillomavirus morphogenesis in vivo.
2002
AbstractThe role of putative DNA-binding domains of human papillomavirus (HPV) capsid proteins for DNA encapsidation in vivo is still unknown. We have now analyzed mutants of the major capsid protein L1 of HPV type 33, which are defective for DNA binding, for their ability to encapsidate DNA using an in vivo packaging approach. Since the DNA-binding domain and the nuclear localization signal (NLS) of L1 overlap, both a carboxy-terminal deletion mutant (L1-1/470) and a substitution mutant (L1-1/477M9) were analyzed. L1-1/477M9 has the classical NLS replaced by a noncanonical NLS taken from the human hnRNP protein A1. The mutant proteins were defective for DNA binding in contrast to wild-type…
Differential expression of Cryptosporidium parvum genes encoding sporozoite surface antigens in infected HCT-8 host cells.
2006
Intracellular replication of Cryptosporidium parvum (Apicomplexa) involves the generation of several asexual and sexual forms of the parasite. During the stage conversions, complex mechanisms lead to differential structural and functional properties of the parasite. These require a well tuned gene transcription machinery. For the first time the gene expression of four surface proteins of C. parvum sporozoites, CP15, CP17, P23, and GP900 were analysed in parallel by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. In addition, CP17 and P23 antigens were detected in infected host cells by immunofluorescence using antisera raised against recombinant forms of the proteins. The results show that…
A functional variant of the serotonin transporter gene (SLC6A4) moderates impulsive choice in attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder boys and sibli…
2011
Item does not contain fulltext BACKGROUND: Impulsive drive for immediate reward (IDIR) and delay aversion are dissociable elements of the preference for immediate over delayed rewards seen in attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). We hypothesized that IDIR would be associated with dopamine regulating genes and delay aversion would be associated with serotonin-regulating genes. METHODS: Impulsive drive for immediate reward and delay aversion were measured in 459 male children and adolescents (328 ADHD and 131 unaffected siblings) with a laboratory choice task. The sample was genotyped for the 5HTT (SLC6A4) promoter serotonin-transporter-linked polymorphic region polymorphism and a …

Measurement of dijet production with a veto on additional central jet activity in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV using the ATLAS detector
2011
A measurement of jet activity in the rapidity interval bounded by a dijet system is presented. Events are vetoed if a jet with transverse momentum greater than 20 GeV is found between the two boundary jets. The fraction of dijet events that survive the jet veto is presented for boundary jets that are separated by up to six units of rapidity and with mean transverse momentum 50 < p¯T < 500 GeV. The mean multiplicity of jets above the veto scale in the rapidity interval bounded by the dijet system is also presented as an alternative method for quantifying perturbative QCD emission. The data are compared to a next-to-leading order plus parton shower prediction from the powheg-box, an all-order…
Entrepreneurship Training and Self-Employment among University Graduates
2012
In economies characterized by low labor demand and high rates of youth unemployment, entrepreneurship training has the potential to enable youth to gain skills and create their own jobs. This paper presents experimental evidence on a new entrepreneurship track that provides business training and personalized coaching to university students in Tunisia. Undergraduates in the final year of licence appliquee were given the opportunity to graduate with a business plan instead of following the standard curriculum. This paper relies on randomized assignment of the entrepreneurship track to identify impacts on labor market outcomes one year after graduation. The analysis finds that the entrepreneur…
