Induction of tcI 7 , a gene encoding a β-subunit of proteasome, in tobacco plants treated with elicitins, salicylic acid or hydrogen peroxide 1
2000
We previously isolated, by differential display and 5′ RACE (rapid amplification of cDNA ends), cDNAs corresponding to genes activated following cryptogein treatment of tobacco cell suspensions, among them tcI 7 (tcI for obacco ryptogein nduced), a gene encoding a β-subunit of proteasome. Here, we report that tcI 7 was up-regulated in tobacco plants treated with elicitins (cryptogein and parasiticein) that have been shown to induce a systemic acquired resistance (SAR). Moreover, subsequent inoculation of tobacco with the pathogen Phytophthora parasitica var. nicotianae (Ppn) was shown to induce an additional activation of tcI 7 in tobacco plants pretreated with cryptogein. We also showed an…
Water Sorption on Mesoporous Aluminosilicate MCM-41
1995
Characterization of the interaction of water with the highly ordered mesoporous solid MCM-41 (pore diameter ∼2.5 nm) is undertaken with the aid of several techniques (adsorption gravimetry, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and controlled rate-evolved gas analysis). The relatively complex water-MCM-41 interactions are characterized by a type V isotherm indicating an initial repulsive character followed by a capillary condensation step of the adsorbate. This highlights both hydrophobic and hydrophilic properties of this potential model mesoporous adsorbent.
Parallel laser micromachining based on diffractive optical elements with dispersion compensated femtosecond pulses
2013
We experimentally demonstrate multi-beam high spatial resolution laser micromachining with femtosecond pulses. The effects of chromatic aberrations as well as pulse stretching on the material processed due to diffraction were significantly mitigated by using a suited dispersion compensated module (DCM). This permits to increase the area of processing in a factor 3 in comparison with a conventional setup. Specifically, 52 blind holes have been drilled simultaneously onto a stainless steel sample with a 30 fs laser pulse in a parallel processing configuration.
Diffractive vector meson production in ultraperipheral heavy ion collisions from the Color Glass Condensate
2014
We compute cross sections for incoherent and coherent diffractive J/$\Psi$ and $\Psi(2S)$ production in ultraperipheral heavy ion collisions. The dipole models used in these calculations are obtained by fitting the HERA deep inelastic scattering data and compared with available electron-proton diffraction measurements. We obtain a reasonably good description of the available ALICE data. We find that the normalization of the ultraperipheral cross section has large model dependence, but the rapidity dependence is more tightly constrained.
Hard single diffraction in p̄p collisions at s=630 and 1800 GeV
2002
Using the D empty set detector, we have studied events produced in (p) over barp collisions that contain large forward regions with very little energy deposition ("rapidity gaps") and concurrent jet production at center-of-mass energies of roots = 630 and 1800 GeV. The fraction of events with forward or central jets associated with rapidity gaps is compared to predictions for hard diffraction. We also extract the momentum loss for scattered protons in such processes. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
Enhanced Surface Ligands Reactivity of Metal Clusters by Bulky Ligands for Controlling Optical and Chiral Properties.
2021
Surface ligands play critical roles in determining the surface properties of metal clusters. However, modulating the properties and controlling the surface structure of clusters through surface‐capping agent displacement remain a challenge. In this work, a silver cluster, [Ag 14 (SPh(CF 3 ) 2 ) 12 (PPh 3 ) 4 (DMF) 4 ] ( Ag 14 ‐DMF , where HSPh(CF 3 ) 2 is 3,5‐bis(trifluoromethyl)benzenethiol, PPh 3 is triphenylphosphine and DMF is N,N‐Dimethylformamide), with weakly coordinated DMF ligands on the surface silver sites, was synthesized by using a mixed ligands strategy (bulky thiolates, phosphines and small solvents). The as‐prepared Ag 14 ‐DMF is a racemic mixture of chiral molecules. Owing …
Physics, Techniques and Review of Neuroradiological Applications of Diffusion Kurtosis Imaging (DKI)
2016
In recent years many papers about diagnostic applications of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) have been published. This is because DTI allows to evaluate in vivo and in a non-invasive way the process of diffusion of water molecules in biological tissues. However, the simplified description of the diffusion process assumed in DTI does not permit to completely map the complex underlying cellular components and structures, which hinder and restrict the diffusion of water molecules. These limitations can be partially overcome by means of diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI). The aim of this paper is the description of the theory of DKI, a new topic of growing interest in radiology. DKI is a higher or…
Hippocampal reversible lesions in a case of transient global amnesia
2018
We report the case of 55-year-old man that after an emotional stress showed retrograde and anterograde amnesia with impairment of orientation in space and time but undisturbed consciousness. A neurological examination excluded other neurological signs or symptoms. The amnesic syndrome resolved spontaneously within 24 hours and the hypothesis of transient global amnesia was placed. Brain CT scan and conventional MRI sequences did not show any relevant pathological findings but diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) showed two millimetric bright spot of restricted diffusion in the right hippocampus; in a brain MRI follow-up those findings were no more appreciable. The diagnosis of transient global …
Digital filtering and analysis for a semiconductor X-ray detector data acquisition
2007
Abstract Pile-up distortion is a major drawback in X-ray spectroscopy at high count rate. Pulse width narrowing with shaping techniques can lead to the reduction of the pile-up distortion, but a low shaping time reduces the noise filtration and leads to a poor energy resolution. Thus, only a best compromise solution between the pile-up and the noise requirements is achievable. The hardware manipulation needed to adjust the parameters of the traditional electronic shaping amplifiers makes it uneasy to tests various settings in different conditions. Digital techniques can help to overcome such difficulties. A digital signal processing and analysis system for X-ray spectroscopy is described in…
A dynamic panel study on digitalization and firm's agility: What drives agility in advanced economies 2009–2018
2021
Abstract Firm agility today is not a factor of competitiveness or success but a survival instrument on the market. Disruptive innovations and technological advancement, together with digitalization, change the role of firm agility. We show that the link between the national/industry level of digitalization and firm agility is statistically robust and essential. We study the link on data from 2009 to 2018 in fifteen EU advanced economies using dynamic panel data modeling. The digitalization impact level differs across firms by ownership type (family to non-family firms). Agility in family firms is strongly influenced by the national/industry level of digitization and investments in intangibl…
