Background: Governments have identified innovation in pharmaceuticals and medical technology as a priority for health policy. Although the contribution of medical care to health has been studied extensively in clinical settings, much less is known about its contribution to population health. Determinantes de la estructura financiera de las empresas españolas

El objetivo de este trabajo es identificar los factores determinantes de la composición de la estructura de capital de las empresas, utilizando datos de una muestra de empresas españolas de la base de datos SABI. A tal fin se ha utilizado un modelo en el que se considera que el nivel de endeudamiento se determina por las características y la estructura financiera de las empresas. Los resultados obtenidos permiten concluir que las decisiones de las empresas, respecto de su estructura de capital, no se explican por una única teoría. Micellar electrokinetic chromatography of polyamines and monoacetylpolyamines

A selective procedure for qualitative and quantitative analysis of ten polyamines by micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC) was developed. Benzoylated polyamines and acetylpolyamines in micellar phase of SDS (10 mM) were separated at 25 degrees C by 20 mM borate buffer pH 8.5, containing 8% ethanol, with an applied voltage of 25 kV (5 microA) and then detected at 198 nm. The experimental factors and operational parameters were optimized by performing analysis at different surfactant concentrations, pH, voltage and temperature with and without ethanol. The repeatibility of migration times and peak heights is a peculiarity of the method here described.

At the time when most people believe in the intercession of the holy man to save the city from barbarians or natural disasters, heroic memory still seems to be venerated by the last pagans. Two passages from Zosimus’ Historia Nova (IV 18 and V 6) tell us how Achilles saved Athens.The first time, the city was spared the earthquake that devastated much of Greece during the empire of Valens; the second time, the city was preserved from Alaric’ ravages in 396-397, thanks to the supernatural precence of Athena Promachos too. Preliminary Results on the Helminthofauna of the Eurasian Lynx (Lynx Lynx) in Latvia

In the article, preliminary data on the helminthofauna of the Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) in Latvia are presented. Material for the research on the helminthofauna was collected and investigated from 1999 to 2002. A total of 42 individuals was examined for helminths. Helminth species occurring most frequently in the Eurasian lynx and helminths dangerous to people were established. Six helminth species belonging to the following taxonomic groups were found: one species (Taenia pisiformis) of Cestoda and five species (Toxocara mystax, Thominx aerophilus, Trichinella sp., Capillaria felis-cati, and Nematoda sp.) of Nematoda.
