Value of texture analysis on gadoxetic acid–enhanced MRI for differentiating hepatocellular adenoma from focal nodular hyperplasia
2019
OBJECTIVE. The objective of our study was to assess the diagnostic performance of texture analysis (TA) on gadoxetic acid-enhanced MR images for differentiation of hepatocellular adenoma (HCA) from focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH).MATERIALS AND METHODS. This study included 40 patients (39 women and one man) with 51 HCAs and 28 patients (27 women and one man) with 32 FNH lesions. All lesions were histologically proven with preoperative MRI performed with gadoxetic acid. Two readers reviewed all the imaging sequences to assess the qualitative MRI characteristics. The T2-weighted fast spin-echo, hepatic arterial phase (HAP), and hepatobiliary phase (HBP) sequences were used for TA. Textural fea…
Enhancement pattern of hepatocellular adenoma (HCA) on MR imaging performed with Gd-EOB-DTPA versus other Gd-based contrast agents (GBCAs): An intrai…
2019
Purpose: To conduct an intraindividual comparison of the enhancement pattern of hepatocellular adenoma (HCA) on dynamic MRI study obtained following the injection of Gadoxetic acid (Gd-EOB-DTPA) and other gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs).Method: This is a retrospective, Institutional Review Board-approved study conducted in a single institution. A search of medical records between 2008 and 2017 revealed 17 patients (all females) with at least one pathologically-proven HCA who underwent liver MRI with Gd-EOB-DTPA and another GBCA within 1 year. Enhancement of each lesion on hepatic arterial (HAP), portal venous (PVP), 2 min and 4-5 minutes phases was subjectively evaluated by two abd…
Peritoneal HPV‐DNA test in cervical cancer (PIONEER study): A proof of concept
2020
The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of peritoneal human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in different clinical cervical cancer (CC) settings, and its association with potential clinical and/or histological factors. This is a single-center, prospective, observational study. Consecutive patients with newly diagnosed or recurrent/persistent CC, between March 2019 and April 2020, were included. A group of patients undergoing surgery for benign gynecological conditions was included as control group. All patients underwent HPV-DNA test in the cervix and in the peritoneal cavity simultaneously at time of surgery. Two-hundred seventy-two patients had cervical and peritoneal HPV te…
Awareness of HPV infection and attitudes toward HPV vaccination among Latvian adolescents
2016
Objective\ud To evaluate awareness of HPV and its vaccine among Latvian adolescents.\ud \ud Methods\ud A cross‐sectional survey was conducted in a 2‐week period in September 2015 among 270 adolescents attending a secondary school in Riga, Latvia. All students present during sexual‐health classes (grades 10–12 [aged 16–21 years]) were included. A self‐administered paper‐based survey assessed sociodemographic factors, sexual behaviours, smear history and knowledge of sexually transmitted infections, HPV and HPV vaccine knowledge, and sources of information.\ud \ud Results\ud Overall, 121 surveys were completed (62 by male students and 59 by female students). Latvian adolescents lacked awarene…
Cardiac Magnetic Resonance with Delayed Enhancement of the Right Ventricle in patients with Left Ventricle primary involvement: diagnosis and evaluat…
2020
: Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR) allows an accurate Right Ventricle (RV) assessment that could be of great relevance in diseases causing inflammation or fibrosis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the concomitant involvement of the RV in patients with delayed enhancement (DE) of the Left Ventricle (LV-DE) using CMR. We retrospectively enrolled 95 (male n. 66; age 55±18years; BMI 26±5kg/m2) consecutive patients with LV-DE who underwent a CMR (Achieva 1.5 T, Philips) for different indications: post-ischemic dilated cardiopathy (PDM), hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), myocardial infarction (MI), myocarditis/pericarditis (MP) and congenital heart disease (CD). We assessed the presence an…
Efficacy and safety of lomitapide in homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia: the pan-European retrospective observational study
2021
Abstract Aims Lomitapide is a lipid-lowering agent indicated as an adjunct therapy for adult homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia (HoFH). This study evaluated the medium-term effectiveness and safety of lomitapide in a large cohort of HoFH patients in Europe. Methods and results In a multicentre retrospective, observational study including 75 HoFH patients treated with lomitapide in a real-world clinical setting from 9 European countries, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) changes, adverse events (AEs), and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) were assessed. After a median 19 months (interquartile range 11–41 months) of treatment with a mean dosage of 20 mg of lomitapide…
HPV genotype prevalence in cytologically abnormal cervical samples from women living in south Italy
2007
Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is the commonest sexually transmitted infection, and high-risk HPV types are associated with cervical carcinogenesis. This study investigated: the HPV type-specific prevalence in 970 women with an abnormal cytological diagnosis; and the association of HPV infection and cervical disease in a subset of 626 women with a histological diagnosis. HPV-DNA was researched by nested PCR/sequencing and the INNOLiPA HPV Genotyping assay. The data were analysed by the chi-square test (p ? 0.05 significant). Overall, the HPV prevalence was 37.7%; high-risk genotypes were found in 88.5% of women and multiple-type infections in 30.9% of the HPV-positive women. The commo…
Detection of human cytomegalovirus and Epstein-Barr Virus in symptomatic and asymptomatic apical periodontitis lesions by real-time PCR
2012
Objectives: Recent studies have investigated the occurrence of human cytomegalovirus and Epstein-Barr Virus in samples from apical periodontitis lesions and a role in the pathogenesis of this disease has been suggested. Because genotype distribution and seroprevalence of EBV and HCMV differ among populations, it is important to determine the presence of these viruses in endodontic periapical lesions of different populations. The aims of this study were to determine the presence of HCMV and EBV DNAs in samples from Turkish patients with symptomatic and asymptomatic apical periodontitis lesions using real-time polymerase chain reaction method and to evaluate their presence in both symptomatic…

Vasodilatation of human gingiva and neurogenic inflammation
2005
BACKGROUND: Neurogenic Inflammation (NI) is the consequence of amyelinic-sensitive neuron activation. Recent studies on rats proved that NI could be experimentally induced by topical capsaicin application. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of topical capsaicin application on human periodontal mucosa and to assess if NI might have a role in the pathogenesis of periodontal diseases. METHODS: 15 patients were examined in our laboratory. NI was experimentally induced in the gingival mucosa close to: (1) the interdental papilla corresponding to the upper central incisors; (2) the interdental papilla corresponding to the lower left lateral incisor and canine after ipsilateral nerve…
