A novel approach to predict aquatic toxicity from molecular structure

The main aim of the study was to develop quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) models for the prediction of aquatic toxicity using atom-based non-stochastic and stochastic linear indices. The used dataset consist of 392 benzene derivatives, separated into training and test sets, for which toxicity data to the ciliate Tetrahymena pyriformis were available. Using multiple linear regression, two statistically significant QSAR models were obtained with non-stochastic (R2=0.791 and s=0.344) and stochastic (R2=0.799 and s=0.343) linear indices. Atom-Based Quadratic Indices to Predict Aquatic Toxicity of Benzene Derivatives to <i>Tetrahymena pyriformis</i>

The non-stochastic and stochastic atom-based quadratic indices are applied to develop quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) models for the prediction of aquatic toxicity. The used dataset, consisting of 392 benzene derivatives for which toxicity data to the ciliate Tetrahymena pyriformis were available, is divided into training and test sets. A multivariate insight into Ionic Liquids' (ILs) toxicity, a broad term highly dependent on the biological systems adopted as “sensors”, addressed four main groups of toxicities: aquatic toxicity, toxicity towards fungi and bacteria, cytotoxicity towards IPC-81 rat cell lines and acetylcholinesterase enzyme inhibition. Acute toxicity testing in fish is a standard method used in estimating the influences of chemicals on aquatic vertebrates. The ecotoxicological data obtained from acute toxicity tests in fish are, however, not sufficiently reliable to justify the continued use of this test. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are contaminants of concern that impact every sphere of the environment. Despite several decades of research, their mechanisms of toxicity are still poorly understood. This study explores the mechanisms of cardiotoxicity of the three widespread model PAHs retene, pyrene and phenanthrene in the rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) early life stages. Tolerance of Whitefish (Coregonus Lavaretus) Early Life Stages to Manganese Sulfate is Affected by the Parents

European whitefish (Coregonus lavaretus) embryos and larvae were exposed to 6 different manganese sulfate (MnSO4) concentrations from fertilization to the 3-d-old larvae. The fertilization success, offspring survival, larval growth, yolk consumption, embryonic and larval Mn tissue concentrations, and transcript levels of detoxification-related genes were measured in the long-term incubation.
