Electrochemical identification of metal ions in archaeological ceramic glazes by stripping voltammetry at graphite/polyester composite electrodes
2002
The electrochemical response of metal ions in different samples of coloured ceramic tin-lead glazes attached to graphite/polyester composite electrodes is described. In addition to the ubiquous signals for lead, reductive dissolution processes are followed by anodic stripping peaks for Co, Cu, Sb, Mn, Sn and Fe, enabling the direct identification of such elements in microsamples proceeding from archaeological glazed tiles from Valencia (Spain) workshops (16th-18th century). Additional anodic and cathodic peaks corresponding to redox processes involving metal species in solution generated during stripping processes are also used. Peak potentials, Tafel plots and shape parameters are used for…
Ni-Fe alloy nanostructured electrodes for water splitting in alkaline electrolyser
2021
Abstract In this work, nickel-iron alloy nanostructured electrodes obtained by template electrosynthesis method are investigated for both hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions. Electrodes consist of nanowire arrays with high surface area that are able to ensures a high electrolytic activity. To obtain different alloy compositions, the concentration of the elements in the deposition baths is appropriately tuned. Results show that the composition of nanowires does not change linearly with the composition of deposition bath but are richer in Fe. Nanostructured electrodes are tested as both cathodes and anodes in 30 wt% KOH aqueous solution, at room temperature to determine the best alloy com…
Electrochemical Characterization of Egyptian Blue Pigment in Wall Paintings Using the Voltammetry of Microparticles Methodology
2013
The solid state voltammetric response of Egypt blue, Han blue and ploss blue pigments upon attachment to graphite electrodes in contact with aqueous phosphate buffer at pH 7.0 is studied by voltammetry of microparticles and scanning electrochemical microscopy. Such voltammetric responses, combined with those for synthetic specimens consisting of binary mixtures of the pigment and SiO2 or CaCO3 as well as ternary ones of CaCO3 and SiO2 mixtures allow for the identification of the pigment and the support in samples from wall paintings using different electrochemical parameters, in particular upon performing the Tafel and modified Tafel analysis of voltammetric peaks. Identification of Egypt b…
Sensing of Transition Metals by Top-Down Carbon Dots
2021
Carbon quantum dots (CQDs) are a new class of carbon-rich materials with a range of unique optical and structural properties. They can be defined as carbon nanoparticles, with sizes in the range of 1–10 nm, displaying absorption and emission activities in the UV-VIS range. Depending on the structure, CQDs display a wide variability of properties, which provides the possibility of finely tuning them for several applications. The great advantages of CQDs are certainly the ease of synthesis, non-toxicity, and the strong interactions with the surrounding environment. Based on this, CQDs are especially promising as selective chemosensors. The present study reports on carbon quantum dots synthesi…
Cu-Exchanged CHA-Type Zeolite from Organic Template-Free Synthesis: An Effective Catalyst for NH3-SCR
2020
A Cu-containing CHA-type zeolite was prepared via aqueous ion exchange of the CHA zeolite from organic template-free synthesis. The thus-obtained template-free Cu-CHA showed the best catalytic perf...
Energetics of Water−Dodecyl Surfactant−Macrocyclic Compound Ternary Systems
1996
Enthalpies of dilution and osmotic coefficients of sodium dodecyl sulfate (NaDS) and dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB) in water + 18-crown-6 ether (CR) and water + β-cyclodextrin (CD) at a fixed cosolvent concentration were measured at 298 and 310 K, respectively, as functions of the surfactant concentration (mS). Enthalpies of transfer ΔH (W → W + S) of CR (0.03 m) from water to NaDS and DTAB aqueous solutions as functions of mS were also determined at 298 K. From the enthalpies of dilution the apparent (LΦ,S) and partial (L2,S) molar relative enthalpies of both surfactants were calculated. Despite CR forms inclusion complexes with the anionic surfactant only, the L2,S vs mS profiles…
Solution properties of polyelectrolytes—V. Viscometric study of mixed polyanions in pure water
1990
Abstract A viscometric study of sodium polystyrene sulphonate (NaPSS) and sodium poly( l -glutamate) (NaPLG) in salt-free water has been carried out as a function of the total concentration, cm, and the concentration of one polyelectrolyte at fixed concentration of the other. The influences of the molecular weight and concentration are considered in order to establish the degree of compatibility. For the first time, an equation is proposed to define the reduced viscosity of the NaPSS + NaPLG mixture in water. The viscometric interaction parameter, Bm, taking into account the electrostatic and thermodynamic interactions between both polyions, is defined as a geometrical mean of the contribut…
Capillary electrophoretic and nuclear magnetic resonance studies of interactions between halophenols and ionic liquid or tetraalkylammonium cations.
2003
Aqueous capillary electrophoretic studies were performed to investigate interactions between halophenols and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate or tetraethylammonium tetrafluoroborate electrolytes. In both cases, increased halogen size correlated with increased affinity for the electrolyte cation. For isomers, the ortho substituted isomer exhibited higher affinity than the para isomer. Irreproducible CE results for analyte pairs in the presence of the ionic liquid stimulated investigations of the interactions between halophenols as well as with the cations of the electrolyte. These interactions were explored by proton and fluorine one-dimensional NMR. The NMR results indicated di…
On-line determination of bipyridylium herbicides in water by HPLC
1997
Selective on-line solid phase extraction (SPE) and liquid chromatography determination (HPLC) of diquat, paraquat and difenzoquat from environmental water samples has been accomplished with Graphitized Carbon Black (GCB) as both extraction and analytical columns. The method involved passing of 50 mL of water through a cartridge filled with Carbograph. In the elution step, the herbicides were transferred from the cartridge to the analytical column (Hypercarb) by mean of a gradient of pH 3 aqueous solution of tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAOH) and ammonium sulphate and methanol. Hypercarb columns were found to give a low probability of false positives for bypiridylium herbicides and are ve…
POSS-tetraalkylammonium salts: A new class of ionic liquids
2012
A series of new polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane ionic liquids (POSS-ILs) based on the trimethylpropylammonium dielectric constants, which, conversely, display slight differences originating from the nature of the anions. The long alkyl-chain substituents on the POSS core infer on this series of ILs an overall hydrophobic character and solution properties comparable to those of classic cationic surfactants, resulting in an effective extractant capability of polyanions from aqueous solutions. Their solution diffusion properties, as investigated by room-temperature dynamic light scattering, solution conductivity, density, and osmometric measurements, do not provide evidence for the occurr…
