Experimental studies of the rheological behavior of a demixing biopolymeric sol
1995
Experimental data are presented concerning a large transient viscosity surge occurring in the course of spinodal demixing of agarose aqueous solutions. The study includes the effects of water perturbation by minor proportions of compatible cosolutes. Three observations are noteworthy. One concerns an upward or downward shift of the spinodal temperature, caused by cosolutes, which agrees with their expected modulation of solvent-induced forces. The second concerns the time of appearance of the viscosity surge. This is observed to follow a critical law, with an exponent independent of polymer concentration and solvent perturbation. The third concerns the inverse-power-law dependence of the vi…
Synthesis and Structural Characterization of a Cyclen-Derived Molecular Cage
2015
Reaction of a tetrafunctionalized cyclen derivative containing four aldehyde groups with an appropriate diamine followed by reduction and demetalation highly efficiently affords a bis(cyclen)-derived molecular cage. Potentiometric investigations show that this compound forms dimetallic complexes with copper(II), with the two metal ions selectively coordinated to the cyclen units. X-ray crystallography indicates that these complexes could give rise to new cascade complexes after incorporation of anions between the metal centers.
Synthesis of a tetradentate piperazine ligand and a structural study of its coordination compounds
1999
Abstract A tetradentate ligand N,N′-bis(2-pyridylmethyl)piperazine (L1) and seven structures of its transition metal coordination compounds are described. Most of the compounds are of the general formula [M(L1)(NO3)2], with M=Cu2+, Co2+, Mn2+and Cd2+. In addition, a dimeric copper(II) compound, [Cu2(L1)(Ac)4](H2O)3, and polymeric silver(I) compounds, [Ag(L1)]n(NO3)n(EtOH)n and [Ag(L1)]n(SO3CF3)n, were formed. The overall structure of L1 in the metal complexes A–G varies with the size and electronic properties of the metal ions. Mononuclear complex A is a five-coordinated, B is a six-coordinated, and C and D are eight-coordinated metal complexes. The dinuclear Cu complex, E, is four-coordina…
ChemInform Abstract: Asymmetric Synthesis of Bicyclic Amino Acid Derivatives by Aza-Diels- Alder Reactions in Aqueous Solution.
2010
Derivatives 7–10 and 13–16 of methyl and ethyl 2-azabicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-3-carboxylates are synthesized by Aza-Diels-Alder reactions of chiral iminium ions, formed in situ from glyoxylic acid and chiral amines, with cyclopentadiene. Whereas the heterodienophiles derived from phenylglycinol and esters of sterically more demanding amino acids fail to undergo asymmetric cycloadditions, with alanine methyl ester and (R)-1-phenylethylamine hydrochoride the cycloadducts are formed in yields of 15 and 52%, respectively, reaching de values of up to 90:10 for the exo isomers.
Pentachloro(pyrazine)rhenate(iv) complex as precursor of heterobimetallic pyrazine-containing ReIV2MII (M = Ni, Cu) species: synthesis, crystal struc…
2008
Three novel Re(IV) mononuclear complexes of formulae NBu4[ReC15(pyz)] (1), NH2Me2[ReCl5(pyz)] (2) and NH4[ReCl5(pyz)].0.75H2O (3), (pyz being pyrazine; NBu4+ = tetra-n-butylammonium cation, NH2Me2+ = dimethylammonium cation and NH4+ = ammonium cation), were synthesized by ligand substitution reaction from [ReCl6]2- anion and pyrazine in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF). In addition, two new heterobimetallic compounds, the salt namely [ReCl5(pyz)]2[Ni(cyclam)](4) (cyclam = 1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane) and the heterotrinuclear [{ReCl5(mu-pyz)}2Cu(DMF)4] (5) complex, were prepared by using as precursor 1 and 3, respectively. Compounds 1-5 were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction…
A new improved synthesis of the 110 K bismuth superconducting phase: freeze-drying of acetic solutions
1992
Abstract Metastability has greatly hindered the separated synthesis of the high-temperature superconducting phases represented as (Bi1−x, Pbx)2Sr2Can−1CunO4 + 2n (n = 2, 2-2-1-2, Tc≈80 K, and n = 3, 2-2-2-3, Tc≈110 K). By careful control of the synthetic variables, it becomes possible to obtain the 110 K phase as the only superconducting one through processing of freeze-dried acetic solutions. This technique leads to homogeneously sized (5–10 μm) micaceous platelets of the superconducting material.
Complexation of phosphine ligands with peracetylated β-cyclodextrin in supercritical carbon dioxide: spectroscopic determination of equilibrium const…
2007
The interaction between peracetylated beta-cyclodextrin and several triphenyl phosphine derivatives was studied in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) by UV-visible spectroscopy. The equilibrium constant for a 1:1 complexation reaction was obtained from titration spectra and calculated using two established mathematical models. The values of the equilibrium constants are 1-3 orders of magnitude smaller than those obtained in aqueous solution with analogous phosphines. This is likely due to the absence in scCO2 of the hydrophobic effect, which is replaced by a corresponding, but weaker, CO2-phobic effect. The largest value of Kf was found for complexes of diphenyl(4-adamantylphenyl)phosphin…
1991
The polysoaps [CH 2 C(Me)(CO 2 R)] n (R=(CH 2 ) 11 N + Me 2 (CH 2 ) 3 SO 3 − , (CH 2 ) 11 N + Me 2 CH 2 CH 2 OH) are studied. Their aqueous solution properties are strongly influenced by added salts; the surface activity can be modified efficiently by an appropriate choice of ions. The interactions of salts and polyzwitterions observed in solution can be extended to the behaviour in bulk. It enables the preparation of uniform, non crystalline blends containing up to equivalent amounts of inorganic salt and polyzwitterions
On The Incompatibility of Dextran and Pullulan in Aqueous Solutions and Its Modeling
2012
Joint aqueous solutions of branched dextran and linear pullulan are investigated with respect to their phase separation. The experiments demonstrate that the polymers are – depending on the molar mass of dextran – incompatible in aqueous solutions despite their chemical similarity. This finding can be modeled on the basis of an approach accounting for chain connectivity and conformational relaxation of the components. According to these calculations, the polymers exhibit a miscibility gap in joint solutions despite the favorable interactions between them. Using information on the subsystems H2O/dextran and H2O/pullulan, the assumption of complete miscibility of the polysaccharides is requir…
Review: Solution equilibria of ternary complexes formed from copper(II), aliphatic amines, and bioligands
2014
This review provides a summary of the coordination chemistry of ligands in the ternary system: copper(II)–aliphatic amine–bioligand, where amine = ethylenediamine – En, diethylenetriamine – Dien, or N, N, N′, N″, N″-pentamethyldiethylenetriamine – Me5dien, and bioligand = selected amino acid, aminohydroxamic acid, or aminophosphonic acid, in aqueous solution. We would like to show the specific interactions of copper(II) in ternary systems in the context of complex equilibria chemistry.
