Structure of diblock copolymers in supercritical carbon dioxide and critical micellization pressure

This paper reports a small angle neutron scattering investigation of micelle formation by fluorocarbon-hydrocarbon block copolymers in supercritical ${\mathrm{CO}}_{2}{(\mathrm{s}\mathrm{c}\ensuremath{-}\mathrm{C}\mathrm{O}}_{2})$ at 65 \ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}C. A sharp unimer-micelle transition is obtained due to the tuning of the solvating ability of ${\mathrm{s}\mathrm{c}\ensuremath{-}\mathrm{C}\mathrm{O}}_{2}$ by profiling pressure, so that the block copolymer, in a semidilute solution, finds ${\mathrm{s}\mathrm{c}\ensuremath{-}\mathrm{C}\mathrm{O}}_{2}$ a good solvent at high pressure and a poor solvent at low pressure. Magnetic Exchange between Orbitally Degenerate Metal Ions: The Problem of Magnetic Anisotropy

Abstract In this paper we show that a strong magnetic anisotropy appears in exchange mixed–valence clusters containing orbitally degenerate metal ions. Combining an effective Hamiltonian approach with the technique of the irreducible tensor operators (ITO) and pseudoangular momentum representation we have solved the problem of magnetic exchange in localized and delocalized (mixed–valence) systems with different overall symmetries ( D 2 h , D 3 h , D 4 h ). A Highly Sensitive Hybrid Colorimetric and Fluorometric Molecular Probe for Cyanide Sensing Based on a Subphthalocyanine Dye

A highly sensitive, selective colorimetric and fluorometric molecular probe based on a subphthalocyanine dye has been developed for cyanide-anion determination in aqueous solution. It has also been shown that a carboxysubphthalocyanine derivative can be covalently anchored to transparent mesoporous nanocrystalline high-surface-area metal oxide films to detect low concentrations of cyanide anion in pure water with no interference from other anionic or cationic species.

Abstract During the reversible electrochemical reactions of the intrinsically conducting polymer (ICP) films, ions are inserted in them to balance the inner charge site of the polymer. For this reason, doped ICP films with anions or cations can be good candidates for the electrochemical removal of contaminant ions from wastewater. In this work, a polymer of a phenothiazine derivative (poly(Azure A or PAA)) was electrosynthesized by cyclic voltammetry in aqueous solutions using nitrate ions as a structural template. Behaviour of Nb2O5/PPy contacts: From Schottky barriers to p-n junctions

In this work, a study of the photoelectrochemical responses of Nb O /PPy contacts fabricated in both organic 2 5 and aqueous solutions is performed. From the comparison between the experimental data of PPy photodeposited on Nb O in organic and in aqueous solutions, it is evident that the medium used for the photodeposition 2 5 influences the absorption coefficient, the band gap and flat band potential values.

A glassy carbon electrode modified by a triply-fused-like Co( ii ) polyporphine and its ability for sulphite oxidation and detection

This article presents a Co(II) polyporphine conductive polymer easily and rapidly obtained (less than 2 h 30 min) on the surface of a glassy carbon electrode from the transformation of an initial Mg(II) porphine solution in a four-step process (including electrochemical and chemical stages). The intimate molecular structure is argued on the basis of the electrochemical response of the modified electrode, as well as its surface characterization. A density functional theory evaluation of hydrophobic solvation: Ne, Ar and Kr in a 50-water cluster – Implications for the hydrophobic effect

The physical explanation for the hydrophobic effect has been the subject of disagreement. Physical organic chemists tend to use a explanation related to pressure, while many biochemists prefer an explanation that involves decreased entropy of the aqueous solvent. We present DFT calculations at the B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) and X3LYP/6-31G(d,p) levels on the solvation of three noble gases (Ne, Ar, and Kr) in clusters of 50 waters. Vibrational analyses show no substantial decreases in the vibrational entropies of the waters in any of the three clusters. Long-chain fatty acyl-CoA esters induce lipase activation in the absence of a water-lipid interface.

In most lipases a mobile element or lid domain covers the catalytic site of the enzyme and the lid opening event, which usually proceed at a lipid-water interface, is required to form the catalytically competent lipase. We report here a noticeable increase in activity of two fungal lipases assayed in aqueous solution in absence of any interface when adding submicellar concentrations of amphipathic physiological molecules like long-chain acyl-CoAs. The catalytic activity was dramatically dependent on the acyl chain length of the amphiphile and could be related with a lid-opening process. New planar polynitrile dianion and its first coordination polymer with unexpected short M⋯M contacts (tcno2−=[(NC)2CC(O)C(CN)2]2−)

International audience; A new planar polynitrile dianion ([tcno]2− = [(NC)2CC(O)C(CN)2]2−) has been synthesized as its potassium salt, K2[tcno] (1). The crystallization of 1 by the slow evaporation of an aqueous solution at room temperature gave two types of colourless crystals having two different shapes [1-A: fine plates and 1-B: needles] for which the crystal structure determinations showed similar geometries for the polynitrile anion in both the structures. The combination of this novel dianion with Cu(II) led to the coordination complex [Cu(tcno)2(H2O)2] (2), which constitutes the first coordination complex of this dianion. Rational design of aminoanthraquinones for colorimetric detection of heavy metal ions in aqueous solution

A family of water-soluble colorimetric chemosensors incorporating an anthraquinone signalling subunit functionalized with a polyamine chain that bears hydrophilic diethoxyphosphoryl moieties was prepared with the aim of assaying metal cations. The outstanding UV-Vis absorption properties of the 1-aminoanthraquinone chromophore allowed the efficient visual detection and quantification of copper(II) ions by chelators L(1)-L(3) in buffered aqueous solution.
