Determination of aniline in vegetable oils by diazotization and coupling in a microemulsion medium
1990
Abstract A microemulsion containing sodium dodecyl sulphate and n -pentanol in a mass ratio of 1 : 4, water and a vegetable oil was investigated using pseudo-tenary phase diagrams. The medium can co-solve important amounts of vegetable oils and aqueous solutions over a wide range of ionic strengths. A procedure for the determination of 1.4–140 μg ml −1 of aniline in vegetable oils using ionic diazotization and coupling reactions was developed. The absorbance was measured in an optically clear microemulsion containing 4% or 20% of oil. The procedure is much simpler and rapid than the official chromatographic methods and gives almost the same limits of detection (ca. 05 μg ml −1 ) using no mo…
Development of a sensitive method for determining traces of prohibited acrylamide in cosmetic products based on dispersive liquid-liquid microextract…
2020
Abstract According to the European Regulation on cosmetic products, the presence of acrylamide in these consumer products is not allowed due to its mutagenic and potentially carcinogenic effects. Despite this ban, acrylamide might be present in those cosmetic products containing acrylamide-based polymers. However, there is no analytical method for its determination in this type of matrices. Based on this, the development of analytical methods for the determination of acrylamide in cosmetic products is required to guarantee consumer safety. In this work, an analytical method for determining traces of prohibited acrylamide in cosmetic products is presented for the first time. The method is ba…
Antibody-Capped Mesoporous Nanoscopic Materials: Design of a Probe for the Selective Chromo-Fluorogenic Detection of Finasteride
2012
[EN] The synthesis of capped mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN) conjugated with an antibody (AB) as a gatekeeper has been carried out in order to obtain a delivery system able to release an entrapped cargo (dye) in the presence of a target molecule (antigen) to which the conjugated antibody binds selectively. In particular, MSN loaded with rhodamine B and functionalized on the external surface with a suitable derivative of N-(t-butyl)- 3-oxo-(5a,17b)-4-aza-androst-1-ene-17-carboxamide (finasteride) have been prepared (S1). The addition of polyclonal antibodies against finasteride induced capping of the pores due to the interaction with the anchored hapten-like finasteride derivative to g…
Influence of water sample storage protocols in chemiluminescence detection of trace elements.
2002
This paper shows the influence of different sample storage protocols, on the chemiluminescence signal of some metal ions. The storage protocols studied were: acid addition (HCl or HNO(3)) and no reagent addition to filtered and refrigerated (T=4 degrees C) samples. Light emission was produced for the chemiluminescence reaction between luminol and hydrogen peroxide in buffer carbonate conditions (pH 10.8) catalysed by Cr(III), Co(II) and Cu(II). Batch and/or flow modes in different conditions were tested. Fe(II), Fe(III), Ni(II) and Mn(II) did not give chemiluminescence in the studied conditions. A parallel study of sensitivity and selectivity was performed. Then the presence or absence of t…
Direct ATR-FTIR determination of sucrose in beet root.
2000
A simple and fast procedure has been developed for the direct determination of sucrose in beet root samples through attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared absorbance measurements (ATR-FTIR) at 1056 cm(-1) with a baseline established between 1187 and 887 cm(-1). The method only requires a previous crushing or liquefaction of samples and it is free from matrix effects and from the interference of minoritary sugars and fermentation molecules. Aqueous solutions of sucrose can be used as standards and recovery values from 101 to 103% were found for spiked concentration levels from 3.5 to 10.5% (w/w). The limit of detection provided by this method corresponds to 0.15% (w/w) of su…
PLS-NIR determination of total sugar, glucose, fructose and sucrose in aqueous solutions of fruit juices
1997
Abstract An analytical procedure has been developed for the direct determination of sugars in fruit juice samples. The method is based on the partial least-squares (PLS) treatment of first derivative near infrared (NIR) spectroscopic data obtained between 1200 and 2450 nm, using 1 mm pathlength cell and a multicomponent calibration set, including seven binary mixtures and 10 ternary mixtures of glucose, fructose and sucrose. The limit of detection values found are of the order of 0.2 g/100 ml for total sugar and 0.2, 0.4 and 0.5 g/100 ml for glucose, fructose and sucrose, respectively. Relative standard deviation values obtained vary from 0.4% to 2.3% for six independent measurements of ind…
Derivative Fourier transform infrared spectrometric determination of ethanol in alcoholic beverages
1994
Abstract A derivative Fourier transform infrared (FT-TR) spectrometric procedure was developed for the direct determination of ethanol in alcoholic beverages, from beers to spirit samples. The method is based on first-order derivative FT-IR measurements between the peak at 1052 cm −1 and the valley at 1040 cm −1 , which are present in aqueous solutions and alcoholic beverages, by using a micro flow transmittance cell with ZnSe windows and a spacer of 0.029 mm. The method involves the accumulation of ten scans and provides accurate results in the determination of ethanol in alcoholic beverages without requiring any previous chemical treatment of the sample or a previous separation or extract…
Separation of plasma membrane proteins of cultured human fibroblasts by affinity chromatography on bonded microparticulate silicas.
1984
Abstract Adsorbents for high-performance affinity chromatography were prepared by bonding proteins and reactive Procion triazine dyes to 3-isothiocyanatopropyl- and 3-aminopropylsilicas. The materials prepared were used successfully in the separation of hydrophobic plasma membrane proteins of cultured human fibroblasts. The data obtained show that the reaction of 3-isothiocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane (ITCPS) with the surface hydroxyl groups of silica yields a new and convenient route to preparing an “activated carrier” that is capable of coupling with potential affinity ligands containing amino functional groups. The reaction and bonding procedures of 3-isothiocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane a…
Effect of Supplementation with Wheat Bran Aqueous Extracts Obtained by Ultrasound-Assisted Technologies on the Sensory Properties and the Antioxidant…
2015
Phenolic compounds have antioxidant properties and activate endogenous detoxification defense systems able to scavenge the reactive species of oxygen. The external layers of wheat caryopsis, largely constituting by-products of the milling industry such as bran and various middlings, contain relevant amounts of phenolic compounds. The aim of the research has been to evaluate the effect of supplementation with wheat bran aqueous extracts, obtained by ultrasound-assisted technologies, on the sensory properties and antioxidant activity of dry pasta. The HPLC-DAD characterization of the extract evidenced the presence of ferulic and p-coumaric acids. The supplemented pasta showed significantly h…
Addition of Secondary Amines to α,β-Unsaturated Carbonyl Compounds and Nitriles by Using Microstructured Reactors
2006
Several additions of amines to a,ß-unsaturated carbonyl compounds (Michael additions) were performed in a continuous-flow microstructured reactor rig and compared to the respective batch reaction. Dimethylamine/diethylamine/piperidine and acrylic acid ethyl ester/acrylonitrile were employed as two sets of reactants, giving six reactions. Some of these reactions are highly exothermal. Using the traditional batch procedure the olefin must be added quite slowly to the diluted amine to ensure temperature control and safe operation; especially this is necessary for the addition of dimethylamine (40 mass % aqueous solution) to acrylonitrile. Good yields (>85%) are achieved in this way; however…
