Abstract New compounds showing hypoglycaemic activity have been designed through a computer aided method based on quantitative structure–activity relationship (QSAR) and molecular connectivity. After calculation of topological indices for a set of 89 compounds including active and inactive with regards to hypoglycaemic action, linear discriminant analysis was performed so that a useful model to predict such an activity was achieved. Later on, the discriminant model was applied on a huge database so that fourteen compounds were selected as potential new hypoglycaemics. Effect of season and soil treatments on carbohydrate concentrations in Norway spruce (Picea abies) mycorrhizae

We studied effects of season and soil treatments (watering, acidification, liming and combinations of these treatments) on soluble carbohydrates of mycorrhizal roots of Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.). Arabinose, arabitol, fructose, glucose, inositol, lactose, mannitol, pinite, quinate, raffinose, shikimate, stachyose and trehalose were identified by HPLC. Concentrations of inositol, lactose and pinite were constant throughout the year, whereas concentrations of raffinose, stachyose and trehalose were higher in winter than in summer, and concentrations of glucose, fructose and mannitol increased from February to September. Tässä työssä tutkitaan Britannian Palestiinan mandaatin viimeisiä vuosia 1945–1948 Britannian parlamentin näkökulmasta. Työn ensimmäinen tavoite on havainnoida Britannian julkisen keskustelun näkemyksiä Palestiinan kysymyksestä. Parlamentissa esitettiin sekä juutalaisia, että arabeja puoltavia mielipiteitä, mutta Palestiinan tilanteen yhä kärjistyessä keskiöön nousivat alueen brittijoukkojen turvallisuus. Kritiikkiä hallituksen lisäksi sai myöhemmin myös YK sen jälkeen, kun Britannian hallitus siirsi sille Palestiinan tulevaisuuden ratkaisuvastuun ja YK päätti jakaa Palestiinan Arabi- ja Juutalaisvaltioksi.
