QoS for real-time IP traffic
2001
Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi 2001 - Høgskolen i Agder, Grimstad This thesis focuses on three service models, known as Best Effort, IntServ and DiffServ, and their ability of providing QoS in IP networks. The objective is to evaluate the performance of real-time traffic based on theory and testing. In addition, mechanisms that may improve the QoS performance further, like MPLS and Bandwidth Brokers, are evaluated to find a comprehensive solution for different types of IP networks. Tests are set up to focus on typical behavior of the service models, and disclose differences in their efficiency together with problems concerning fairness in the bandwidth sharing. Res…
Migration of VOIP/SIP enterprise solutions towards IMS
2006
Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi 2006 - Høgskolen i Agder, Grimstad Voice-over-IP solutions based on SIP and Skype are now widely spread and accepted by end-users. "Traditional Circuit Switched" voice services suffer from declining revenues, high maintenance cost, and a lack of integration with Internet applications. For an enterprise customer it is increasingly difficult to make a decision about which VoIP solution to select. For fixed and mobile operators new solutions based on IMS are on the horizon, and investment strategies for VOIP solutions are difficult. The research project will investigate VoIP/SIP solutions based on open source as a starting point, and out…
Formation of secure wireless ad-hoc sensor networks
2004
Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi 2004 - Høgskolen i Agder, Grimstad Looking into the wireless world today, the most of data/information is transmitted in plaintext over the ether. These sensitive data/information possibly route through several intermediate nodes to a destination. To secure the sensitive data/information, the various ad-hoc technologies like Bluetooth, WLAN and ZigBee have implemented different security mechanisms and routing protocols. But since most wireless ad-hoc networks demand battery driven devices they will have limit resources to provide feasible security. The different technologies will be outlined regarding a set case scenario. We have a pa…
WLAN-GPRS interworking
2001
Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi 2001 - Høgskolen i Agder, Grimstad During the last years it has been experienced a huge growth in Internet users. Nearly each household in Norway got a computer attached to the Internet. The trend for further growth seems to be within the concept of mobile Internet, which means that the user can be attached anywhere at any time. The sales of mobile equipments like personal digital assistants (PDAs) and laptops are currently experiencing a great growth. This indicates a need for greater flexibility and mobility and gives therefore a demand for mobile Internet. The motive for this thesis was to investigate the opportunities to offer mob…
Research on the impact of using interactive game based learning to teach mathematics
2005
Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi 2005 - Høgskolen i Agder, Grimstad The number of students who study scientific subjects has continued to drop over a long period of time. Compared to 2004, there is a 12% decrease in High School students who study mathematics and a 5% decrease in applicants for technology studies at College and University level in 2005 [1]. These numbers concern employees of the technology sector as they have predicted a large need for mathematicians in the future [19]. The educational system is under constant change to take advantage of new educational methods that modern technology allows for. The Heriot Watt University in Scotland showed that the i…
Effektiv integrasjon av Java servlets i Apache web-tjener
2000
Evaluation of frameworks for creating end-to-end mobile services with OMA MMS as a use case
2005
Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi 2005 - Høgskolen i Agder, Grimstad Several frameworks are available in 3GPP networks to create mobile services, such as the Open Service Access (OSA) Application Programming Interface (API) and the native Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). Each of these frameworks has their own advantages and disadvantages. Therefore it is important for a service to use a framework which suits its own requirements as best as possible. In this thesis we have defined a use case, TMMS Service. This use case has been designed for four frameworks selected, which are: GPRS, IMS, OSA API and OSA Parlay X Web Services. We have then evaluated the design of the…
A feasibility study of new RFID applications
2004
Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi 2004 - Høgskolen i Agder, Grimstad The introduction of Radio Frequency Identification represented quite a revolution to the various areas of industry and business, focusing on the process of marking items for automatic identification. RFID offers similar functionality as the well established barcode, but with major additional advantages. These are in short read/write capability, memory, and operation independent of free line of sight between reader and tag. Enhanced production techniques also seems to contribute to lower production cost and thus cost per unit boosting the research on new and promising RFID applications. Other factors …
