Background: The use of different growth tables to assess the population's nutritional status has given rise to a series of limitations arising from the lack of consensus and uniform methodological criteria. Starptautisko konferenci “Jauno vēsturnieku zinātniskie lasījumi VII” rīko Latvijas Universitātes Latvijas vēstures institūts un Valmieras muzejs, sadarbībā ar Vītauta Dižā Universitāti Kauņā, Lietuvas Vēstures institūtu un Tartu universitātes Vēstures un arheoloģijas institūtu. Konferencē jau septīto gadu piedalās jaunie pētnieki, kuru interešu loks aptver ar vēsturi saistītas tēmas visplašākajos kontekstos. Šogad lasījumiem pieteikti 28 referāti, kuri pamatā aplūko dažādus vēstures aspektus no 15. līdz 20. gadsimtam. Izdevumā “Jauno vēsturnieku zinātniskie lasījumi III” publicēti deviņi raksti, kuru pamatā ir ziņojumu materiāli, kas nolasīti 2017. gada 20. oktobrī Valmierā, Valmieras muzeja un Latvijas Universitātes Latvijas vēstures institūta rīkotajā konferencē “Jauno vēsturnieku zinātniskie lasījumi”. Krājumu izdod Valmieras pilsētas pašvaldības Valmieras muzejs sadarbībā ar Latvijas Universitātes Latvijas vēstures institūtu. Visi raksti ir anonīmi recenzēti. Abstract Despite the biologically damaging impacts of solar ultraviolet radiation (UV) in nature, little is known about its natural variability, forcing mechanisms, and long-term effects on ecosystems and organisms. Arctic zooplankton, for example the aquatic keystone genus Daphnia (Crustacea, Cladocera) responds to biologically damaging UV by utilizing photoprotective strategies, including pigmentation. Phosphorus limitation enhances parasite impact: feedback effects at the population level

Background Nutrient deficiency affects the growth and population dynamics of consumers. Endoparasites can be seen as consumers that drain carbon (C) or energy from their host while simultaneously competing for limiting resources such as phosphorus (P). Depending on the relative demands of the host and the parasite for the limiting nutrient, intensified resource competition under nutrient limitation can either reduce the parasite’s effect on the host or further reduce the fitness of the nutrient-limited host.
