AIOC2: A deep Q-learning approach to autonomic I/O congestion control in Lustre
2021
Abstract In high performance computing systems, I/O congestion is a common problem in large-scale distributed file systems. However, the current implementation mainly requires administrator to manually design low-level implementation and optimization, we proposes an adaptive I/O congestion control framework, named AIOC 2 , which can not only adaptively tune the I/O congestion control parameters, but also exploit the deep Q-learning method to start the training parameters and optimize the tuning for different types of workloads from the server and the client at the same time. AIOC 2 combines the feedback-based dynamic I/O congestion control and deep Q-learning parameter tuning technology to …
Il potere dell’architettura. L’ideologia di regime all’Esposizione Internazionale di Parigi 1937
2014
The political crackdown during the 20th Century finds in the International Events a special place for the hosting Countries to spread their ideologies to the visitors and to all the other Countries attending the event. National Pavilions become the subject of propaganda, and their architectural language became an important part of the collective identity’s reclaimed logic, even if it wasn’t always real. Paris International Exposition of 1937 is a paradigmatic case: it’s a mirror of that time and of the prewar period’s international tensions. Born under the auspices of peace, it finally results the most relevant expression of the relation between Power and Architecture.

Pupils' Creative Self-Expression in Visual Art
2021
The study is devoted to the organization of the teaching/learning content of visual art and self-expression process in practice. The article, based on theory, explains creative self-expression in the context of pupil's meaningful learning, based on the new education policy and the developed guidelines in basic education. The individual experience of prospective primary school teachers and their understanding of self-expression in visual art has been clarified during the reflection and pedagogical observation in the study process in methods of teaching visual art which led to stating the research problem. The theoretical account offered in the article reveals pedagogical possibilities for pr…
The language of emotion in short blog texts
2008
Emotion is central to human interactions, and automatic detection could enhance our experience with technologies. We investigate the linguistic expression of fine-grained emotion in 50 and 200 word samples of real blog texts previously coded by expert and naive raters. Content analysis (LIWC) reveals angry authors use more affective language and negative affect words, and that joyful authors use more positive affect words. Additionally, a co-occurrence semantic space approach (LSA) was able to identify fear (which naive human emotion raters could not do). We relate our findings to human emotion perception and note potential computational applications.
Report on Italy
2019
The right to take part personally in criminal proceedings, although not expressly provided at a Constitutional level, is an expression of the principle of a fair trial upheld by Article 6 of the ECHR and translated into Article 111 of the Italian Constitution. In the course of years, the CCP, also following some condemnations by the Strasbourg Court, underwent several modifications aimed at implementing principles and conditions affirmed by the ECHR that can legitimate proceedings in absentia of a defendant. This study is structured into different parts. In the first, an analysis of national rules concerning the participation of a defendant and other private parties at each stage of proceed…

Language-Game: Calculus or Pragmatic Act?
2013
We have tried to make the potentiality inherent in the concept of the linguistic game evident by taking it back to its original context in the work of Wittgenstein. This paper aims to re-examine some features of Wittgenstein’s thought, considering in particular the notion of ‘language-game’. We believe that the language-game might play a role in overcoming once and for all the classic distinction between semantics and pragmatics. We deal with the exegetical discussion of the notion ‘language-game’ as it was interpreted in two different senses: as a synonym of calculus or as a minimal unit of linguistic activity that is directed to obtaining certain pragmatic effects in a societal context. T…
Jealousy in Four Nations: A Cross-Cultural Analysis
2012
This study analyses differences in the expression of jealousy between India, Ireland, Thailand, and the United States (n = 1,792). The results reveal that American, Irish, and Indian participants express more behavioral and emotional jealousy than Thai participants. In explaining the results, the discussion focuses on how individuals from more egocentric and masculine cultures (the U.S. and Ireland), and patriarchal cultures (India) are more likely to express jealousy than individuals from Thailand. Moreover, the discussion offers an analysis of this study's contribution to the sociocognitive perspective on jealousy.
