FLUMO: FLexible Underwater MOdem

The last years have seen a growing interest in underwater acoustic communications because of its applications in marine research, oceanography, marine commercial operations, the offshore oil industry and defense. High-speed communication in the underwater acoustic channel has been challenging because of limited bandwidth, extended multipath, refractive properties of the medium, severe fading, rapid time variation and large Doppler shifts. In this paper, we show an implementation of a flexible Software-Defined Acoustic (SDA) underwater modem, where modulation parameters are completely tunable to optimize performance. Nella zona di Ragusa (Plateau Ibleo, Sicilia sud-orientale) la presenza di bitume all’interno di rocce carbonatiche di età oligo-miocenica, caratterizzate da una porosità primaria oggi compresa tra 0 e 10% (Formazione Ragusa, permette di osservare il ruolo esercitato da faglie e fratture nella circolazione degli idrocarburi. Fino a quando non sono stati inventati i moderni sistemi di refrigerazione, il compito di mantenere basse temperature è stato delegato a particolari architetture. Nella provincia di Palermo questo compito era affidato alla “fossa della neve." In generale trattasi di un ambiente sotterraneo in cui era conservata la neve, da utilizzare per la produzione di gelati e bevande fresche. La neve proveniva dalle “neviere” - “fosse della neve” presenti nelle montagne delle Madonie. Geometric and morphologic evolution of normal fault planes and traces from 2D to 4D data

Abstract The detailed 3D geometry of normal fault planes is described and analysed using datasets from outcrop studies (2D), seismic surveys (3D) and analogue models (4D). Different geometric configurations of simple isolated normal faults are studied by reference to processes of normal fault propagation. When a normal fault propagates without interacting with other fault zones, the entire border of the principal plane displays characteristic connected secondary structures.
