Enterprise Architecture Benefits: Perceptions from Literature and Practice

2008

First published in the Proceedings of the 7th IBIMA Conference Internet & Information Systems in the Digital Age, 14-16 December, 2006, Brescia, Italy Enterprise Architecture (EA) is considered a means for acquiring a multitude of benefits in organizations by most academic literature and practitioners alike. However, academic research has almost omitted the domain of EA benefits and value realization, and thus more research on the subject is needed. This paper describes a study which aims to chart the benefits of EA by a comprehensive literature review and a focus group interview of practitioners. As a result, a categorization of the EA benefits is composed and analyzed.

A Goal-Oriented Way to Define Metrics for an Enterprise Architecture Program

2008

First published in the Journal of Enterprise Architecture, Vol. 4, No. 1, 2008, pp. 20-26. Republished with the kind permission of the Journal of Enterprise Architecture Metrics are becoming more and more important in the development of enterprise architecture (EA) programs. Therefore, guidelines and support to define metrics for EA programs are needed. A goal-oriented approach for defining metrics for EA program and the measurement aspects for EA program are presented in this article. This approach was developed and tested during the development of proposals of EA program metrics for two companies. peerReviewed

Anchoring symbols to conceptual spaces: the case of dynamic scenarios.

2003

In recent years, there have been several proposals for the realization of models inspired to biological solutions for pattern recognition. In this work we propose a new approach, based on a hierarchical modular structure, to realize a system capable to learn by examples and recognize objects in digital images. The adopted techniques are based on multiresolution image analysis and neural networks. Performance on two different data sets and experimental timings on a single instruction multiple data (SIMD) machine are also reported.

Rural-cultural excursion conceptualization: A local tourism marketing management model based on tourist destination image measurement

2009

Abstract Excursions to small, rural villages rich with historical heritage and architectural harmony are popular in Spain and other similar countries. This study presents a conceptualization and definition of this sort of tourism in rural-cultural destinations. In addition, it introduces a combination of variables that define the image of the destination, the characteristics of these types of trips, and characteristics of the rural-cultural tourist. One of the main results of this qualitative and quantitative empirical research is that it identifies a set of variables that span the cognitive and affective components of tourism. These cognitive–affective components mainly address the towns' …

Isotropic–isotropic phase separation in mixtures of rods and spheres: Some aspects of Monte Carlo simulation in the grand canonical ensemble

2008

Abstract In this article we consider mixtures of non-adsorbing polymers and rod-like colloids in the isotropic phase, which upon the addition of polymers show an effective attraction via depletion forces. Above a certain concentration, the depletant causes phase separation of the mixture. We performed Monte Carlo simulations to estimate the phase boundaries of isotropic–isotropic coexistence. To determine the phase boundaries we simulated in the grand canonical ensemble using successive umbrella sampling [J. Chem. Phys. 120 (2004) 10925]. The location of the critical point was estimated by a finite size scaling analysis. In order to equilibrate the system efficiently, we used a cluster move…
