Abstract Tropical cyclones have had a considerable impact on Mauritius. Large cyclones are relatively rare, and in popular imagination are thought to hit Mauritius every 15 years. Yet it has been over 25 years since the last cyclone widely considered as ‘significant’. Critically, there is little known about the role of memory in responses to cyclones and details regarding responses to past cyclones in Mauritian history are scant. AbstractThis study contributes to the field of International Public Administration (IPA) and the emerging area of Informal International Relations (IIR) by examining the politics of staffing and recruitment of the African Union Commission (AUC). Although the AUC has become a major political player in international affairs, there is a dearth of knowledge about the civil servants who work for the AUC and who run this paramount pan-African executive body. The article tries to highlight, despite the scarse of available documentation, the Greek and Latin studies (language and texts) in the ancient Apulian University in Altamura (1748-1821). Furthermore, on the basis of unpublished archival materials (school registers and student workbooks) it is possible to shed light on the ancient authors explained at school, the teaching methods, and the study practices.

Patient documentation for the ultrasound laboratory

The development of a PC based system for the storage of patient data in the echocardiography laboratory is described. Special design objectives were low cost and user friendliness, including an integrated special query language. After 3 years of use, the system stores 80000 diagnoses from 12000 patients without any relevant slowdown of response. Future developments concerning the communication between the database system and an echocardiographic sector scanner are discussed.
The impact of information and communication technology (ICT), education and regulation on economic freedom in Islamic Middle Eastern countries

Our study investigated the impact of ICT expansion on economic freedom in the Middle East (Bahrain, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen). Our empirical analysis used archival data from 1995 to 2005; it showed that ICT expansion in the Middle East has been effective both in bridging the digital divide and also in promoting economic freedom in a region that was vulnerable to political, social, and global conflict. El presente trabajo trata de analizar la relación entre el taller de Tomás Cobo, su viuda y su sobrino Luis Obispo, desde 1859 hasta 1905, con la Real Academia de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales, estudiando la gestión de los encargos que se produjeron, conociendo el tipo de encuadernaciones que se encargaban, el número de volúmenes, el tipo de obras (monografías, revistas, publicaciones internas de la propia Academia…), los precios, los distintos talleres… Tomás Cobo trabajó para la Academia entre 1859 y 1869, su viuda entre 1869 y 1884 y su sobrino Luis Obispo entre 1884 y 1905, fecha última de la que tenemos documentación en la Academia
