The Roadmap to Finnish Open Science and Research
2015
Finland published its open science roadmap at the end of November 2014. This roadmap is based on the work of the Open Science and Research Initiative (ATT), a cross-administrative initiative established by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The goal of this initiative is to promote open science and availability of information. Exploration of recent developments of open access in the EU shows that Finland is not among the leading countries in the EU. This paper focuses on the practical action plan of this roadmap and describes how the weakest part of Finnish open science, green open access is to be lifted at international top level.
Kotimaiset tieteelliset lehdet, rinnakkaistallennus sekä huomioita SHERPA/RoMEOsta
2017
This report examines the actions taken for promoting the green OA in Finnish scholarly journals and their effects in 2016 and 2017. A Finnish-language form for suggesting publisher policies to SHERPA/RoMEO database was developed. It was linked into instructions for applying the government subsidy of scholarly publishing. Finally, a resolution on archiving was negotiated with the copyright organization responsible for distributing remunerations of a national license based article database (Elektra). Due to these actions, the number of announced self-archiving policies rose from 27 to 53. 24 policies were collected via the Finnish form and sent to SHERPA/RoMEO. In this connection, some shorta…

Interlinked and integrated research support services
2022
This poster introduces the efficient set of research support services available in University of Jyväskylä’s (JYU) Open Science Centre (OSC). The set includes several essential services for researchers to help them execute an open and responsible research process. The continuous improvement of research support services has led to an interlinked, integrated and harmonious set of technical solutions, processes and workflows which meet the needs of researchers and help them implement open science and FAIR policies in practice. They also save time and enable better working processes for the researchers but also for the experts conducting these services. The poster describes two main services …
Recent challenges to contemporary art databases. Digitisation Practices and Archive Development in Artist Estates
2021
Over the last decade, databases have appeared as the only solution for artist estates and collections seeking to categorise and disseminate their artworks and thereby enhance their position and reputation. Grounded in empirical work and scholarly research, this paper examines the archive digitisation practices at three high-ranking art organisations – Douglas Gordon’s studio, the Sigmar Polke Estate and the Julia Stoschek Collection – to show how the creation of databases has become central in conforming to best practices and providing valuable information to the art market. In revealing the mindset, requirements and conditions of such digitisation projects, this text offers a reflection on…
