Initial surgery for localized rhabdomyosarcoma: a report from the italian Soft Tissue Sarcoma Cooperative Group Studies.

2005

Objective. Analysis of the initial surgical approach in patients with localized rhabdomyosarcoma, enrolled in Italian Studies (1979-2003). Methods. Surgical records of 587 patients were evaluated. As primary surgery, the excision was recommended if microscopically complete, otherwise biopsy was preferable. Results. The initial biopsy, performed in almost 50% of patients in RMS-79 protocol, has been adopted more often in the protocol RMS-88 and 96. However, the “complete resection” rate has remained quite stable through the years, as well as the percentage of microscopic residue. The macroscopic residue disease has been more important in RMS-88 study than in RMS-96. Most GUnBP tumors and abo…

Antibodies to human herpes virus type 8 (HHV8) in general population and in individuals at risk for sexually transmitted diseases in Western Sicily.

2000

Human herpes virus 8 (HHV8) appears to be the primary aetiologic agent of Kaposi sarcoma (KS). To study the distribution of HHV8, a seroepidemiological study was carried out in western Sicily, where a high incidence rate of classical KS is well documented.A total of 970 sera of healthy human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) negative individuals of general population (1-70 years old) and 742 sera of individuals in different risk groups for HIV infection were evaluated by means of an indirect immunofluorescence assay able to detect antibodies to lytic and latent HHV8 antigens.Crude seroprevalence to HHV8 antigens was 11.5% in the general population, and it increased significantly with age from 6%…

Silyl modification of biologically active compounds. 13. Synthesis, cytotoxicity and antibacterial action ofN-methyl-N-(2-triorganylsiloxyethyl)-1,2,…

2012

A series of N-methyl-N-(2-triorganylsiloxyethyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro(iso)quinolinium iodides has been synthesized via dehydrocondensation reaction of N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline, N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline and 4,4-dimethyl-N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-4-sila-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline with trialkyl(aryl)hydrosilanes and subsequent alkylation, and characterized by 1H, 13C and 29Si NMR and mass spectroscopy. The biological activity data exhibited a marked enhancement of inhibitory activity against tumour cell lines and almost all the test bacterial/fungal strains in comparison with their 2-hydroxyethyl precursors. Cytotoxicity in the microgram range against …
