SURGICAL TREATMENT OF GASTROINTESTINAL STROMAL TUMOR AND IMPLICATIONS OF NEO-ADJUVANT TREATMENT
2013
Gastrointestinal stromal tumor is not frequently type of sarouma found in the digestive system, often arise in the wall of the stomach or stromal cells of the intestinal wall.
A view of the vegetation and economic exploitation of the forest in the Late Neolithic sites of Les Jovades and Niuet (Alicante, Spain)
1992
SummaryThe results of the charcoal analysis obtained in two open air sites of the Late Neolithic, although contrasting with what is known so far about their economy, as well as with the results of different palaeoamblental studies undertaken in other sites, mainly caves with long sequences, within the same area or in other near areas, form the main interest of this paper. We will begin presenting the data pertaining to both sites individually which, in the final part, will be assessed in order to reach a better understanding of the relationship between men and their natural environment during the Neolithic period.
Mid-Holocene forests from Eastern Hungary: New anthracological data
2013
Charcoal remains found in five archaeological sites provided an important source of information about the woody vegetation that developed during the Atlantic period in eastern Hungary. The results are presented jointly since all sites are located in very similar habitats, they reflect Neolithic cultures and present comparable floral compositions. The reconstruction of past forest communities from the Great Hungarian Plain in the Atlantic period is based on pollen analysis and new anthracological data offer significant complementary information to the established pollen sequences. These data were obtained from more than 5000 charcoal fragments in which 28 taxa were identified. The main contr…
An anthracological approach to understanding Late Classic period cultural collapse in Mesoamerica’s northwestern frontier
2012
International audience; For over 50 years, researchers have suggested that increased regional rainfall over the highland deserts of Mesoamerica's northwestern frontier zone during the Classic period (AD 200-900) allowed for the colonization of the zone by farming groups who originated from Central and/or West Mexico. A severe and prolonged drought is hypothesized to have later provoked the abandonment of the region by these sedentary populations by AD 900. However, very little research has been carried out in the zone to detect evidence of this proposed climate change. I present results from the first systematic study of wood charcoal from the northwestern frontier, comparing the data from …
Recensione Carlo Riggi. Rarefaction
2019
The excessive stereotypical attractiveness and the unreal perfection that the photographs manifest today, especially through social networks, as well as their huge amount, brought it Sicilian psychoanalyst Carlo Riggi to research and communicate with his photographs a way to alienate yourself from an iconic, uncanny invasion
The Neoplastic Side of the Abdominal Wall: A Comprehensive Pictorial Essay of Benign and Malignant Neoplasms
2023
Abdominal wall neoplasms are usually benign and, in the majority of these cases, no further work-up or treatment is indicated. The percentage of malignant abdominal neoplasms, however, is not negligible. Radiologists play a pivotal role in identifying imaging features that should favor malignancy, including larger lesion size, edema, neurovascular involvement, and peripheral or inhomogeneous dynamic enhancement, thus indicating to the clinician the need for further work-up. Histopathology is the reference standard for the characterization of abdominal wall neoplasms. In patients undergoing surgery, radiological assessment is needed to guide the surgeon by providing a comprehensive anatomic …

Understanding space in ephemeral organizations: contributions of commented walksThis article examines a particular type of ephemeral organization in which institutional and secular actors are connected resting upon on a strong territorial basis. Their fleeting quality is however compatible with a certain degree of permanency. The authors question the sources and resources of such permanency and insist on the role of space in coordinating collective action, and in this case, in preventing urban incivilities. They call on an unusual method, called Commented Walks, to capture the relation between such organizations and space.
Tumour oxygenation during fractionated radiotherapy--comparison with size-matched controls.
1999
The effect of fractionated irradiation on the oxygenation status of experimental tumours was investigated using polarographic assessment of the pO2 distribution. Since an improvement in tumour oxygenation could simply be the result of tumour shrinkage, a comparison of pO2 readings of untreated size-matched control tumours was performed. Irradiation was carried out using 6 fractions of 6 Gy applied within 11 days. A comparison of polarographic pO2 data with size-matched untreated tumours revealed a significant improvement in oxygenation after the irradiation. The median pO2 was 0.9+/-0.1 mm Hg for unirradiated tumours at a volume of 180 mm3, while the corresponding data for irradiated tumour…
